Also regarding the patch, they added the new pawing animation when you are back-pedaling. I'm wondering what people would think about having this same button combo to add a range/pawing animation when your not retreating too?

AI waay too good at submissions on Normal mode
Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I'm loving the Career mode more and more with every patch BUT... The AI seems un-humanly good with Subs. I'm not just talking athletes that should be good with subs either. Has anyone else noticed this?

Try using 3 gates to escape against the AI, works very well against on the higher difficulty levels. -
Re: AI waay too good at submissions on Normal mode
What are you sub stats in career?
Anything under 80 makes it pretty damn hard to escape a sub, which can be awkward when you move up to the UFC.
If its above 80, just be careful, always manage your stamina when your in a position the AI May have a sub from, try not to ever let it get a stamina advantage.
I thought subs were easier to lock in and escape after the patch, but after a ton more games against various AI's I'm not so sure, I've been tapped a few times.
I think they've kinda tweaked how each AI subtype goes about submissions, your.Maia, Ortega and Jacare types never miss a gate and are very quick at shutting down your escapes.
But more all rounded fighters who mix subs in like Moicano or Korean Zombie occasionally miss a gate and aren't as hardcore in their defense as the Maias.
And finally, the lower your overall stamina the easier a sub is, even if your temporary is full.
So if Jacare gets you down and has 70% max stamina and you have 40% there is a good chance you won't escape a sub attempt if he tries one and your best bet is either stand up, or get top position and stifle him from a safe place (Half or Side or the back)Comment

Not sure what to make of it,I love this game but the only reason I wont fight above normal difficulty is that I would have no chance at escaping subs,I mean I get subbed about 75-80% of the time on normal. What doesnt make sense to me is when they display the left analog cue at the end of each stage of the submission, when I hit the proper left analog input, the progress of the sub gate does not carry over. In other words, what's the point of me properly inputting the left analog cue? Whether I correctly input the left stick or not, the submission advances to the next stage, and all submission gate progress is lost.

Worst case, this is now somewhat tunable via the live tuner sets, and doesn't require waiting for a full patch. Not that we can just do those whenever we want, but still a nice option to have.

Re: AI waay too good at submissions on Normal mode
I have been getting subbed a majority of the time against the CPU so its not just you. It's on normal difficulty,I'm usually fighting against guys who don't have over an 88 sub rating, and I usually have fairly high stamina when I get subbed. Never had many issues with getting subbed in any of the other UFC games going all the way back to Undisputed 1.

The sub system in UFC 3 is slightly different than 2, in that your gates all decrease on a new stage, with the farthest ones being punished the most. For that reason, you're much better off making progress to three or four gates in the first few stages, and only going to two gates in the last couple stages. This will allow you to carry the most progress with you, and give you the best chance at escaping before it's over.Last edited by Skynet; 04-29-2018, 03:26 AM.Comment

Skynet beat me too it.
That is good advice for the sub system.Comment

Re: AI waay too good at submissions on Normal mode
As the one trying to escape from a sub, the only left analog input you need to watch is the green one, for chain submissions. If you hit it first, the chain doesn't happen, but if the attacker hits it first then they chain into the late stages of a different submission (bad news for you). The regular left stick prompt is only used for the attacker, and is their queue to advance the stage. Nothing more.

Re: AI waay too good at submissions on Normal mode
So I tried working 4 gates during the first couple stages of a submission and I'm still tapping more than a piano instructor. Not exactly sure about what you mean about progress carrying over,I was assuming you meant progress of each gate carrying over to the next stage of submission defense, but the gates reset after each stage so not exactly sure what was meant. Holy s#$/ not sure why the submission game was changed from last game, changed for the worse.....

Re: AI waay too good at submissions on Normal mode
The progress does carry over, just not all of it. I've been testing a bunch of stuff in legendary grappling recently, and have escaped most of DC's attempts to choke out Jones.
Stats, stamina, moves, etc. all factor in, but for the most part if you're not at a notable disadvantage when the submission starts, then it shouldn't be overly difficult to escape.
Can you try posting a video, so we can break it down and give you some tips?
Edit: If you're not already doing so, you don't have to wait until the AI blocks a gate to move to another. Knowing the approximate cadence at which they block gates, and just switching beforehand can be beneficial in the early stages. Any time that the AI is blocking you is a waste.Comment

Re: AI waay too good at submissions on Normal mode
Wow,I cant even imagine trying to escape a submission on legendary, lol! I'm sure there's some trick to escaping subs,I just cant figure it out for the life of me. I try to push at least 3 gates out in the first stage of the submission but soon as it goes to the second stage it's like I'm back at square one. I get what you're saying about its wasting time if you're trying to push out a gate that they are defending,if its not moving towards the outside I immediately switch gates. In the first stage I just alternate between gates, not waiting for the gates to stop, I just try to get 3 of them as far as I can before the 2nd stage.
