When I mention outside fighting, I mean a fighter who is constantly at kick or step kick range and refuses to engage at punch range no matter what.

When others mention outside fighting, they typically mean someone who occasionally engages a fight at punch range and tends to go in and out. They usually use back dashes/lunges to create space.

I've never seen someone fight outside (under my definition) in UFC 3. Never. Even the examples my colleagues have shown me are people who are consistently engaging at punch range but who regularly fight off of their back foot.

So when you say its "OP" what do you mean exactly?
I would say the ability to make your opponent miss whike fighting on the outside is really easy, which in turn drains your stamina, all the awhile you are coming forward your block will always be breaking faster and more often than the guy going backwards.

I have had fights online where the opp will stand in the middle of the octagon and not move till you start going after them, never once will they move forward.

I was able to pierce through rhat style sometimes with power punches, but now it seems leg kicks get auto rocks if you even move your legs a little bit.

I think its easy if you have someone who's willing to allow you space. Ive seen people (including myself) struggle with keeping space against people who aggressively move forward with combos. If you allow me to stay at kick range I can fight outside all day. If you charge forward in punch range, the only option I have is to strike to get you off of me.

The issue I have is there is no way in this game to fight an outside style against an aggressive opponent going straight forward by simply using movement. I can engage with that person and hope that my counters will cause him to become less aggressive but there is no way to avoid aggression simply with movement. Thats not realistic to me.

In that regard I’d say you have a point. That’s more so counter fighting than outside fighting.

The gamey evasian mechanics are a bit too easy and imo should be tied to footwork. Right now the window is pretty big for everyone.

Can someone explain how outside fighting is OP?

Aholbert made a great post regarding this in the thread.

Based on that I'd like to see how people think this.

Coming forward and leading is actually very dangerous now that people are planting and firing stationary. You lose the speed, power, and stamina battle against someone moving backwards or still.

You are right that mainly "outside" fighters are using the back lean and lunge to bump in and out of the fray, but you can easily keep someone at bay with jabs and using the leans and lunges to stay on the outside only. It's just far more entertaining/quick to reengage.

How would you see outside fighting as a playstyle. Because you can certainly stay out at range and jab/leg kick someone for five rounds as they gas trying to chase you. You couldn't do that at launch.

Can you explain how you’re supposed to keep someone on the outside in this game?

Outside fighting isn't going to be you just perfectly executing jabs for 25 minutes and not being touched. You're still going to have to plant and engage. Sometimes even going forward when apt.

You can definitely achieve this with great success. It requires patience and good timing. FtD was on Sharif like glue, but after that combo (had Sharif not been rocked) he would have had to back off or risk getting tagged with low stamina after being successfully evaded. Or not, maybe the guy evading would have just took the win of the stamina advantage and circled out. Which FtD would have had to allow an exit or a good player would hit the body and cause even more stamina damage.

I will post a video in the other topic.

They made it impossible to chase good fighters now.

The problem is that you wanna chase your opponent in the first place you can’t force a finish in real fights but you can in UFC 3. When the game first came out you could sit back and counter the runners when they finally engaged but that style as a whole got patched out of the game.
