Re: What should UFC 4 improve in striking?

I Honestly really love the striking in this game. Now that I've played it a bunch I can accurately translate my own fighting style into the character. It's so much fun to successfully work the leg, jab from both stances, and push kick to keep the distance.

    That being said,
    - The controls could use some fixing, as they are a bit wonky to learn. (Uppercuts, clinching). Let's make it more intuative to understand and less about memorising.
    - Power: people have suggested having the hold button to generate more power in strikes. that could be cool.
    - Clinch: clinch is a big aspect of striking. I'm glad they're moving towards it with the patches. But I'd like more quickness, fluidity and risk in the clinch.
    - oh, and seperate the punch and leg stats.

Better Mocap technique. Actually have guys hitting something during mocap. Bags, pads, a real person with protective gear on etc. This capturing while guys are beating up Jesus isn’t cutting it.

Something so there's not so many simultaneous strikes or close to it. UFC 2 didn't have this issue.

Bring back striking speed and power for kicks & punches separately.

Remove the combo system and just bring in a kick & punch combo rating.

I just watched an interview with Bas Ruten where he was talking about this in part of it. He did mocap for a game, I think all the animation for 1 of the GTA games tbh? They just had him swinging at air, and the animations looked very weird. He told them they need to have him hitting pads or a bag or something. So they re did the mocap with him hitting pads/bag and the animations looked waaaay better.

I immediately thought of the EA UFC series.

Just something- if two people are nose to nose, the hook uppercut hook should beat the jab uppercut hook.

            Just saying.

Elbows should beat close up jabs and hooks.

They hit things during mo cap. Not on every strike recorded but it does happen. In fact, I personally saw Dennis Bermudez hit pads while mocapping his kicks.

Yeah, I have no idea what they’re talking about. The animations look great.

The animations are good. For me its how wonky the striking can be and feel at times. At times it can feel like dudes are ice skating when striking in this game.

All we need are kick combo and punch combo speed ratings. This worked beautifully in EA MMA. Volume strikers were unique from power strikers, even with the limited moveset. We don't need combo sets, just add some addition common sense foot planting mechanic or something so we aren't seeing really out there combos pulled off and that would be it. But if a fighter would have a low kick combo but high punch combo speed rating, they wouldn't be able to chain combos from one to the other too well anyway if they'd just implement those ratings properly anyway.

We need WAY more animations for everything. Strikes, movement, fighter interactions (glsncing blows, rolling with punches, etc. Also the block breaking meta me will hopefully be replaced with something equally as fun but a little more realistic.
...precision beats power and timing beats speed... and realism beats meta.
