He has mid-upper 90s on literally every important grappling stat: clinch grapple, top game, takedowns, TDD, clinch throws, grapple stamina, etc.
He also has blocking, and health stats to make the brief periods you have to strike with him, safe.
The day I decided to just stop picking DC, Jacare, etc., and just go all out with Sonnen, I began having way more success.
I don’t play much - but I played a lot this weekend. Beat a LOT of good players by just sprinting at them with Sonnen, throwing straight punches and clinch attempts, and just relentlessly going for TDs. I surprisingly out struck a lot of good players with Sonnen, by blasting 1-2s or 1-4s once they get nervous about the TDs.
This all sounds like some noobish division 4 shenanigans right? Well guess what, it’s extremely effective if you refuse to accept “no” for an answer. Even if your opponent denies the TD, you’re still winning. Just keep going. If you get rocked, take the round off to preserve stamina, then go full force the next round. Use head movement and side steps to set up clinch attempts.
1-2 is perfect for the over/under entry.
Stand in opposite of opponent’s stance for easier single collar entries.
Punch at the head to open up any clinch entry.
If you don’t beat them in the clinch you will beat them with boxing because they’re either camping on clinch denial or blocking their head.
Once on top, don’t settle in guard! Go straight to stacked, pass ASAP! Settle briefly in HG, pump some fakes to mount, then pass again! Do this ALL day! If you deny something from SC, it’s a wrap! You will break everyone like this.
