Wishes for Career Mode in UFC 4

UFC 3 is a great game when it comes to actual gameplay mechanics. Theres a few exploits there, but they don't overshine what is otherwise a highly realistic MMA game. However, playing online gets really boring quick, and with how good the AI has actually gotten, I really hope we get some more offline options. Tournaments are fun, quick fights can obviously be fun too, but the career mode is plain horrible. It's scripted, shallow and you have close to no control in terms of what kind of fighter you want to create. Maybe in broad terms, and late in the career (after the super fight), you might be able to have unlocked enough gyms to pick and choose between moves. But until then, you gotta just go with what you're presented. And it's too bad. So I thought I'd present my dream for the career mode in UFC 4. Hopefully the devs sees this, and takes it into consideration.

    Dynamic roster
Broadly, I hope we get a realistic, customisable and dynamic mode in the next instalment. Where the UFC (at least your division) follows along as your career progresses. Guys retire if they're too old, their physical attributes go down. Some (especially high IQ fighters) might be able to stay relevant until they're 40 years old or something. But definitely not the majority. New CAF's emerge, who develop their skills until a certain age, as well as young fighters on the roster eventually reaching a level where they can be contender (Alexander Hernandez fx). Some are destined to never be more than fillers, some gatekeepers, some contenders, and on the rare occasion, you might see a legit future legend emerge through the ranks to threaten your position. I'd love for us to have more options to follow the roster or division. Like the leaderboards, standings and some of the historic options in 2K. Fx. give us a hub, where we can see the current standings, all the events that had passed throughout your career, how the fights went down (just who won maybe) and an ability to go into every fighters own hub, to see his current record, and who he has faced. Just creates a lot of immersion in the mode. Again, like 2K's MyLeague.

    Customisation options
It would be really cool if we could actually create custom rosters as well. Maybe even allow us to edit the rosters while in the mode (think NBA2K's MyLeague). That way, if the division is looking a little think because you cleaned it out, you can insert some young lion to the division, and hopefully he'll blast through the division and give you a tough contender to keep you fresh. Also adds the possibility of creating your own storylines. Fx. I could see myself creating some 30 year old monster wrestler, with no MMA experience, and have him be like an olympic medalist or something. That way, I can give him high stats from the get go (like DC). I know, it's silly, but it would keep the game fun. That's often how I play MyLeague in 2K where you have these options.

    Simulation engine
Also, the other fighters on the roster keep fighting, and the fights are simulated based on their stats (maybe styles) and of course a tiny bit of randomness (TINY!!!!). Hopefully that means, that guys like Khabib, Jones etc. is the ones you have to eventually dethrone (if you can), and perhaps they'll keep knocking on the door throughout a good chunk of the career., if they haven't stepped outside of their peak at that point.

    Fighter creation
Now to the players' actual career. For me, the optimal thing would be if we were allowed to create exactly the fighter we wanted from the get go. If I want him to be an 18 year old GOAT, so be it. If I want to give him realistic stats in terms of the technical attributes like accuracy, grappling etc., but fx. have his physical attributes like speed, power and health already be elite (which is actually more realistic), so be it. You could always make it so, that achievement etc. only counts for those who chose the "grinding" playstyle, and have it be a choice you make before you start (customisable mode or non-customisable mode).

Ability to customise own fighter completely
So you open the career mode, create you guys appearance, background and style. Like you do already. Only difference is, if you play the customisable version, you can now also edit his specific stats to your liking, as well as his move-set. If you want to put a cap on how many moves you can have equipped from the get go, and how high you stats can be, then that's fine with me. As long as you allow us to define the style of our fighter, so we don't have to spend most of the career with a limited fighter, and once we've actually reached a point to where he stands out with his own style, the career is almost over.

    Gyms and upgrading system
Throughout your career, you can of course upgrade his stats and moves. But none of that bracketed ****. I'm fine with it have to be earned through training etc., but allow us to allocate our XP to the specific stat we wish upgraded, as well as the specific move and move-level we wish to upgrade. If I don't need to learn a level 5 kneeler, it's pretty annoying that I have to do so in order to reach level 3 jab or whatever. Same goes for stats. It's literally impossible to end up with realistic looking stats as it is now because of the brackets. I always end up maxing something out in order to upgrade something else. Another thing tied to training is the gyms. I liked the inclusion of different gyms with specific traits. Keep that, but at least allow us the possibility to stay at the same gym throughout. If we fight someone who is also at that gym, give us some possibility to convince the gym, that they have to move forward with us, and not the guy we're facing. Ala Jones vs. Rashad and Perry vs. Cerrone, but where the young guy is actually favoured (again, realism, someone clearly on the brink of stardom, you don't just let that man go!).

    Less scripted narrative
My last wish is for less scripted nonsense. The GOAT thing was pretty nice, but it doesn't have to be predicated on you being a two division champ. Allow us to do so (maybe even three division champ if we so choose), but also allow us the freedom to fx. stay at HW or something throughout. Let us have a bigger influence on the matchmaking. Give us a list of potenital fights within our reach in terms of the rankings (maybe even at different weight classes for either another strap or just a great matchup), and allow us to call them out. Even after becoming champ. We kind of have that option before becoming champ, where we can pick between three guys. That would be fine. Keep that option after becoming champ as well. Maybe even add call outs from these fighters if you're the champ, and make us able to respond to those and chose who we feel talked the biggest game to earn a shot against us. Also, have a bunch of goals we can achieve in regards to GOAT status. We already do, but even more of them, so that we can carve or own path towards GOAT status, and not just the path you guys decided. Like, if I'm 50-0 and a double champ, I'm the GOAT. No way around it. I'm pretty sure you can have a scenario in UFC 3 where you're 50-0 but not the GOAT lol. If you want to keep the cutscenes because of sales and marketability, have them be very broad, so that they can act in most scenarios. Don't know to what extend that is possible, I'm not a game developer and don't get the algorithms at play, but I hope that's possible! The reason 2K ruined their own career mode was exactly because of the scripted BS.

The only reason people still play 2K's career mode is because it's so closely tied to MyPark. 2K used to have great career modes, but they really dropped the ball since 2K15. An MMA game has GREAT potential in that regards, because we're talking about one vs. one fights. The landscape surrounding your fighter (the roster/division) should be fairly easy to simulate in a somewhat realistic manner, and every decision you make is about YOU. You don't have to add in factors like what teammates is on your team, what team you sign for etc. I really hope you'll take at least some of these points so UFC 4 can add some offline playability as I really want to properly enjoy the new amazing AI in this game, as well as have some other options than playing spammers and the likes online, who make me want to smash my TV on a daily basis.

Phew, that was a looooong as post. Feel free to add your own ideas, or comment on mine!

I like the idea of choosing your stats at the start of career mode.

I would like to start off with at least bottom tier roster stats (80 - 82 overall).
Those stats are bad enough that there is room for improvement but good enough to have quality fights from the start of career mode.

It would be awesome if perks could be earned by your actions during fights.
    • Landing leg kicks could unlock/upgrade the tree chopper.
    • Landing knees in the clinch could unlocks/upgrade thai terror.
    • Landing takedowns could unlock wrestling clinic.
    • Landing combos could unlock fluidity.

The ability to call people out

Being able to call people out post-fight or on Twitter is a must. You go to the option, you have the list of all the fighters in your division and maybe even the champions of the adjacent divisions. You can call out anyone. Depending on your ranking/hype and their ranking/hype this would yield different results. Maybe Dana White won't like a certain fight. But maybe you don't like a certain fighter - call them out. You want to avenge a loss earlier in your career? Call them out. They reject? You have a bit of a storyline and in the event of a fight taking place sometime in the future, it could get more hype based on rankings/hype. That's one way for storylines to occur in general. They should be able to call you out too. But everyone must be available.

The ability to move between weight classes at will

I think one should be able to move to weight classes whenever they feel like it. This could cause their progression in the rankings to stagnate, naturally. Moving down should be related to, obviously, weight cutting, and the further down you go from your natural weight, the harsher the penalties will be for you - i.e. chin rating drops. If you go too high up, you could have poorer conditioning and you could be knocked out easier, since guys just hit harder, for example. This should affect the physical aspect of your fighter, positively and negatively.

Also, a much better create-a-fighter mode is needed. It's unbelievable that you cannot choose the height and reach of your created fighter. I also fully agree that the fighter should be competitive in the UFC from the get-go, with an established moveset, strengths and weaknesses. These should be prone to adjustments, improvements, or deteriorations based on damage taken, moving between weight classes, etc., but a UFC fighter is not a rookie in a local promotion.

Being able to play as a real UFC fighter

It would be great to be able to take Carlos Condit on one last run, or use anyone really. Could be someone in their prime or an up-and-comer, too. The career when using such a fighter should start at the current point of their career, whenever that is.

      Remove longevity

The player should be able to play as much as they like. The fighter's stats should deteriorate more and more after a point but we should be able to keep going if we want to. Wins will become harder to get, naturally.

Great stuff! The last three UFC career modes were historical dissapointments so this is kind of my last hope.

At this point it's "universe mode" or bust for me. If UFC 4 doesn't have it I'm done with this franchise.

Absolutely this! Although I'm not getting my hopes up, I feel the people who care about a good offline experience are a dying breed.

Another vote for the Dynamic Roster here.

Booted up an old save and it's the year 2034 at UFC 423, as much as I love Cat Zingano, I shouldn't be fighting her for the title. She's 52 years old by this point and I've beaten her twice already to retain my belt. (Fun note, her record is 69W - 23L)

Yeah, I did a save at LHW, so I could dominate the HW division later. So many freaking guys at 50-60 years old when you get far into your career. And you keep facing Ngannou and Blaydes who are 100 OVR across the board, as well as the odd CAF with a 5-5 record.......................

I've been asking for this since the game came out.

This, I'm not done BUT universe mode would be the best input to the game, I'm sick of quick fights where if I lose or win = nothing. I want to be able to jump around different fighters and it would be nice if the W's and L's counted for something.

Get bored of using Nate for example, jump in with Al Iaquinta and take a run at the belt, use him for 10 fights, change it up with another hopeful champ etc..

Its long having to start a new career mode just to get to the title run.

Also gives the oppurtunity to move around the divisions.

                    Universe please!

Re: Wishes for Career Mode in UFC 4

                        Career mode:

-Rivalries occur naturally. Fighters And yourself can call out fighters or be called out ,talk crap about performances and more ways to start rivalries. Fights can sometimes not happen right away.

-Fighter respect. Instead of dissing or calling people out a negative way you can call out in a more respectful way or just show respect for fighter performances and etc.

-switching weight-classes any time you want. only can go down one or up one. So if I was a lightweight I could go to welterweight or I can go down to featherweight but if I was a heavyweight I can only go down one since losing weight will be harder but for strong weights they can go up to because gaining weight is easier.

-Being offered better contracts if you are dominating and/or finishing fights. This will give you fast rise to the title.

-Weak contracts. if you are not a fan favorite , Other fighters and prospects are doing better than you and/or not performing good you will have a slow rise to the title.

-Defending belts/Double champ. You have to defend your belts in the same year ,if you go a whole year holding up a division and not defending your belt then you will lose your belt.

-Post fight interview with voiced fighter or just dialogue. Can talk crap about opponent ,show respect ,give thanks to coaches, call out a rival of your choice ,praise fans and more. A prompt shows up and shows a list of rivals and press button to activate call out this fighter if you choose that route. Dialogue or speech changes depending on your performance.

-Very High fight hype/Championship ppv promos/commercials.

-Megan Olivi Interviews backstage after fight.

-More ways to enter the UFC like contender series ,TUF (UFC 1 and UFC 2 FORMAT PLEASE ,UFC 3 TUF WAS TRASH no fense) , Amateur organizations (amateur record doesn't matter ,this is the case in real life) ,Small pro organizations ( Pro record matters and I can stay fighting in the smaller organizations for however long I want until IIIIII CHOOSE TO LEAVE , If I'm becoming a big star or putting on good performances While in small pro organizations I will get contract offers by Dana white to join contender series , Straight into UFC or TUF and yes I can decline all offers).

-Take injured fighters place if you want. A prompt will show that Dana White texted you asking if you want to step in for injured fighter but you won't be the only option. If I'm more popular fighter tries to step in most likely Dana White will take that fight over you. This can also happen for title fights.

-Message/ social media board. I would like to be connected to the UFC and all of its Fighters with a dynamic social media system where shows upcoming fights, upcoming pay-per-views, social media post/tweets from fighters to other fighters, fighters commenting on upcoming fights, their training ,taking pictures and etc. Dana White will post also commenting on different things, fight analyst will post different things and espn (new deal with ufc). Respect fans and Hateful fans will post on the message board/social media about you ,upcoming fights and etc.

-if you can't use strikeforce or other small organizations the ufc have bought I suggest creating your own. 3 Small organizations with trash fighters and realllllyyyyyy good generic fighters (Generic stars and top prospects like yourself can join the UFC or stay and dominate for awhile)

-no more longevity meter we choose when to retire But age should matter for our longevity instead because not everyone can do this forever. The older you get the less speed you have ,less power ,slower reflexes ,get knocked out a lot or be in a lot of wars throughout your career than your chin won't be the same and you will be prone to the Knockout a lot more and etc. Look at Alistair Overeem that man has a bunch of fights under his belt from kickboxing and other sports and he's still in the game fighting but he's not the same when he was young and that shows but nonetheless he's still fighting. We retire when were ready. Let this be the case for other fighters in game too, they should know when to retire and when they're not the same.

-If were performing terribly in the UFC then we will get cut from the Roster and we will have to go through the beginning process again and try to fight our way to get back into the UFC. If i'm a fan favorite this is less the case , lose some and win some type fighter has a medium chance of being cut , if i'm just losing back to back I will have a greater chance of being cut. Get the picture but star power matters so if i'm a guy who hypes up the fights takes on all comers but loses some than i have a low chance of being cut than a guy that isn't a star doesn't hype fights and loses.

-No more scripted career , this our journey our legacy let us have more freedom And make our own decisions. Rivals , Being liked by Fighters ,Choose to duck or take on all comers, double champ defending , up or down weight class at will ,being called out and much much more. We make our own decisions and our decisions impact our career and legacy.

-Different ways to get to the belt faster or slower. Ranking from slower ,medium and fast paced. This will carry over to small organizations and big organizations like the UFC. If I'm a big Prospect and I come into the UFC a semi big star then I will most likely get into the top 5 pretty fast because I'm so good, same goes for if I'm not a star but I beat people pretty decisively then I will be top 10 and etc. You get the picture. Star power, Dominating performances, weak performances , not a star but is a beast ,Journeyman , losing streak ,winning streak , a hype man that's backs up what he says ,a hype man that doesn't live up to his word and etc should matter in small organizations ,THE UFC and the roads to titles.

-Add more gyms to train at (keep existing ones) and with different roster of fighters ranging from different weight classes. So if I'm a lightweight and want to train with luke rockhold or Daniel Cormier that's part of my gym than I should be able to. I actually train in MMA and I seen people that don't like each other settle their differences in sparring and talking this should be the case in our home in game but this shouldn't always work(only way this happens is if your being unsportsmanlike in sparring like taunting ,going for the ko all the time and vise versa). You can also have great relationships with *teammates by training with them often ,giving advice to other fighters and showing respect through liking their performance through social media. We shouldn't get kicked from our gym either if were rivals with other gym members ,this should lock certain things from training with other people in the gym.

-Real Fighters as your cornermen. So if i'm part of a gym instead of generic coaches it should be real fighters from your gym as coaches.

-Weigh in cutscenes and interactions. cutscenes consist of stepping on the scale in our fight attire or underwear (underwear color is different for each fighter depending on country color and fight attire), joe rogan saying the weight of both fighters and face offs. Face offs are different depending on relationships with opponent. Rivals interactions will go face to face and look like there talking crap to each other ,forehead to forehead ,pushing and shoving before dana white steps in and etc. Respectful interaction will consist of hand shakes , goofy interaction ,fists ups and smiling. Neutral relationship will just have the standard hand shake and fight pose or no hand shake and fight pose.

-On the scale poses (flexing arm muscles ,flexing and yelling ,wave at the crowd ,angry stare ,smirking and much more). This we can choose when creating a fighter.

-Crowd interaction towards fighter whether they are liked or disliked by the crowd. They will cheer loudly for you or boo you but they will always cheer for the face off depending on how intense it is or how much they like the match up.

-More names, last names and nicknames. Think ea mma and how you can place nicknames in front or the middle of your name. No nickname. Bruce buffer says nickname or last name or full name if you can make that happen.

                        FIGHTER HEAD MOVEMENT:

-we need to distinguish head movements and footwork from other Fighters that rarely used head movement and good footwork. I shouldn't be Demian Maia and move my head around like I'm a Dominick cruz. Every fighter should move their heads in different ways and have different reflexes. Think EA Sports Fight Night Champions, you guys had a good job on creating head movement ,tiny hit box (so your punch actually has to land where your throwing it because if not you will miss slightly) and counter punching off slipping. Every fighters reaction time and strike speed off of a counter should be different. Look at conor he can slip and make you pay fast and Demian maia is slower to the counter.

                        GRAPPLING:

-After 3 ea UFC games I can proudly say that I do not like and will never like the slow-paced, fainting left and right up and down, waiting for your opponent to move one side and just to get blocked the next and just overall laying on top of each other throwing tiny strikes just to get a reaction or “advantage”. This is not wrestling this is not Jiu Jitsu this is not any form of grappling you will ever see in your life. I actually train MMA and it's more fast paced trying to get position while trying to make your own moves ,stopping others movements and ending up in different positions. It will be kinda hard to come up with a system they can implement this type of grappling but it can be done and it has been done it just needs to be tweaked down a lot more.

Same goes for clinch fighting. In the clinch you are moving around at a fast rate throwing different strike(no canceling each other strikes unless you both throw the same thing and you hit each others limb). And the UFC games it looks like you're taking baby steps *around to try to move around in the clinch when it should feel like fast walking and simultaneously striking at the same time. I believe that in the clinch the button inputs should be the entire controller and modifying for different strikes and cancelling with different buttons not just the right analog stick.

-Head movement on the ground and blocking from all positions. There shouldn't be no cancelling each others movements and transition because you got hit with a baby punch or big punch. We need to keep the flow. I should try to be able to block my head with one hand during a transition or trying to move my head out the way during transition and if I get hit it shouldn't cancel my transition but your strikes should land on my block or through my whole transition.

-I never understood why the ground and pound knockout animations were so bad but I believe the way to change this is by using ragdoll knockout physics on knocked out opponent using ground and pound. As soon as you knock him out his body will go limp and you will “finish the fight” until the ref pulls you off.

                        STRIKING AND CAMERA ANGLE:

The striking right now is pretty good I guess but I would say make head movement and reflexes unique towards all fighters and the speed of counter punches and counter kicks higher or lower depending on Fighters. Way more animations for each strike variations. Strikes should be distinguished by fight styles because a muay fighter doesn't punch like a boxer and a boxer doesn't punch like a Muay Thai Fighter. Watch some videos and how certain people punch and kick and you will see what I'm talking about. Also if I'm throwing a strike some Fighters usually block the side are not punching from to make sure they are defending themselves, we need to be able to defend ourselves even when we are striking whether it's punching or kicking. The only way we should be completely open is when we're both throwing strikes at the same time, going to war, a fighter doesn't have a strike animation that blocks the side he isn't strike from or timing our opponent ,we hit the fighter on the open side he's striking from.

-I would like to see The Fight Night Champions camera angle be in UFC 4 or a more over-the-shoulder camera view. Just give us more camera angles that can give us this immersive feeling of being close to the fight.

                        ADD ONS/OTHER IDEAS:

-Fight Night champions replay anytime I want

                        - when the round is over show the replay on left or right hand corner in a box and fighters in their corners in a split screen but audio on their opponent side is off.

                        - Capture only top 15 fighters in all divisions and its TOP prospects ,no more journeyman/Low tier fighters no one plays as.

                        -More fighter perks.

-KO ragdoll physics standing and KO ragdoll physics on ground
