(Idea/thought) Control Scheme for catching kicks

This was something I tweeted to GPD awhile and also curious to know what y'all think. Feel free to share some of your ideas on this topic if you have any.

Catch Kicks: L2 + R2 + flicking RS Right or Left (Depending on which side of your body is being kicked)
    Checking Kicks: L2 + R2 + flicking RS down

Also i know this post i made was specifically on catching and checking kicks. Parries are something i would love next game but ONLY if the devs were to make it not freeze the player in place like ufc 2 did. Thoughts

I mentioned those same control schemes on Twitter as well alongside a Aldo vs Lamas gif to show what should happen if somebody mistimed a check.

As for parties, if you have a cooldown window after a mistimed parry where they can be hit, and have Parries only allow counters with the strike you parried and ideally have it only be jabs straights, and roundhouse body kicks that can be parried,, i.e. parry a jab and land a jab, then it can be a lot more balance.

I like your idea for the body kick catches, but instead of it being side dependent, to make things a little bit easier, just have it be stance dependent. If you're Orthodox, flick left to catch body kicks, and if you're Southpaw, flick right.

I'm not big into the idea as of now as the controls are already too convoluted IMO. It's a cool idea that you give blocking legs and body some unique characteristics but I'm not sure that it would actually transition into the game that well.
      ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I mean..maybe but i get where you coming from. Just that the game controls for blocking low is unrealistic. Not trying to diss the idea they went with either.
When you say that it probably transition in game, do you mean like how it was with parries in UFC 2?

What I mean is that it's a cool idea and definitely has a basis in realism but I don't know if it can be integrated into a video game in a way that feels good. Like you mentioned, parries are also a cool concept but so far they haven't been executed well and I don't know if they can.

The catching kick suggestion is pretty good in my opinion, it isn't too complicated and it adds a sense of deliberate action. You can fall back on a simple block if there's no time to catch it. That also sounds realistic to me. The leg kick check follows the same principle, so I like it too. Yeah, you can't "defend" those unless you check them but you should look to stay close or time a takedown if you can't check them. Or clinch. A well-timed straight should also be a great deterrent to leg kicks.

I just don't think a simple well-timed flick of a stick alongside the already automatic block holding makes a negative difference or a much more complicated game than we already have. Romero's idea for the parries sounds pretty simple too. I think it's worth a try, at least.
