Small changes you’d like to see to existing mechanics

Figured I’d start a comprehensive thread where we list small changes that we think could improve game.

    My idea

Change the way lunges work so that it matches the balance of head movement.

Currently we have major/minor head movement. Minor is for better counters, major is for better evasive frames but less countering ability.

But when it comes to lunging, major lunging offers pretty good countering ability. What I’d like to see is the major lunge offer more movement away from the opponent but increase recovery time so you can’t immediately counter from it. Maybe another half range away for the back lunge and have the side lunges no longer circle the opponent but instead lunge further away left or right.

What this would do is make minor lunges the primary tool for counter striking and major lunges the primary defensive tool when you want to get out of range.

For balance make it so that if you lunge into a strike you take massive damage or if blocking your block will be totally gone from one strike. Have the back lunge cost more stamina and if done too close to the cage possibly trigger a stumble animation.

I think blocking strength overall could be reduced if this is added since people could rely on footwork more to get away from combo spammers.

Imo this helps casuals not get overwelmed by volume. Helps sim guys since footwork is generally the primary tool for defense. And helps competitive guys by allowing more lateral movement for cage cutting /gassing guys who try to constantly jump out of range.

I'd wait for actual gameplay footage or a beta, before discussion something that we do not know right now. Devs will PROBABLY continue with the old game, and keep improving it, but there was actually so much unbalance in UFC 3 that I wouldnt mind seeing something completely new... then again its EA the masters of recycling.

Imagine they come up with something that was never seen before in a MMA game... the hype would set the roof on fire.

What do you think about the current trade offs? Being able to block (all directions) during the minor lunges and their lower stamina cost, but covering less distance.

Minor Lunging in general is really iffy because the game handholds when it comes to range management for an attacker. We’ve discussed the extra step on hooks and other strikes before. There’s a reason most people dont like minor lunging as much compared to other evasive maneuvers.

Lateral minor lunges also pale in comparison to major since you get the pivot animation while minor lunges leave you right in front of your opponent.

Minor lunging and blocking is a joke. It does nothing in terms of evading. Its useless

Do you mean the side ones, the back one, or all?

All directions. The biggest problem with it is your movement speed is reduced while blocking so when you input the lunges your just giving yourself a high chance to get your block broke or koed. I understand not wanting running. But there should be no slowdown during the minor lunges. I've said it before and I'll say it again. We need a third stance. The neutral stance. It would add so much depth to the game as well as provide the necessary tools that the games missing.

I'd like to see some Anderson Silva 360 hands Down Head Movement.

Also I'd like for them to add a prime version of Legends like Anderson Silva, so that it mixxes up the divisions and give it more variety.

Nobody likes playing as a 44 year old Anderson Silva.

Also pay attention to the models, I mean i just rewatched the Adensaya vs Anderson Silva Fight and Anderson Silva looked twice the size of the skinny Adensaya. Adensaya in this game looks like a giant compared to Anderson Silva.

Some other things I'd like added, are more taunts, using L1 + R1 modifiers to give us more.

Also allow for some shadow boxxing hand movement/fighting from high skilled fighters like Silva and Adensaya... Their whole fight they were touching and faking for 15 minutes, never stood still, like every fighter does in the game and they do that to create openings.. With the slow strikes and stamina system, it's not possible to do in EA UFC 3.

Actually I like playing as 44 year old Anderson Silva (whenever I use him). The guy's obviously declined but he's still active and he's got certain strengths and certain weaknesses and you've got to adapt to those. It's not 2010 anymore. That makes things more interesting and is realistic.

I don't know if blocking slows down the minor lunges. It slows down walking, just a bit (unless you're rocked, in which case it's slowed considerably).

                        More stamina tax. Weaker block.
(Theoretically should tune the meta to be more realistic, with less non stop arcade action)

Less Stamina Drain on the Stiff Arm Retreat.
(Posting/Framing on the exit is a super common form of defense, it shouldn't drain so much stamina)

                        Smoother Headmovement animation
(If you wanna keep the mechanic functioning as is, then it is what it is, but at the very least the animation could be tuned. It looks very herky jerky and not very good. I've made an entire thread on this already with video comparison)

                        Completely remove Automatic Range Adjustment
(So often in the game, the game itself will actually automatically slide the attacker into range letting them land strikes they were out of range for, and should never have landed. This gives pressure fighters an unfair advantage and makes fighting on the outside and counterattacking way more difficult than it should be)

Lower the movement speed/distance of Moving Strikes
( In real life no fighter is actually moving while striking at all times. Moving and striking simultaneously is actually incredibly hard and technical to do. Where in this game you just run with all your strikes no problem as if it was normal. That's just not realistic. ~90% of the time in real life you use footwork to get into range, where you then plant and fire off. You rarely see guys just casually moving while striking like you do in this game.

The game has a whole hidden meta of major and minor lunges and different ranges for different strikes, which is awesome and realistic and dynamic and very fun to engage in, but it's almost completely ignored because of the ease and effectiveness of moving strikes.)

I would really like there to be reactive head movement. I suppose it should be based a) on head movement rating and b) on the opponent's speed rating (for both punches and kicks, which should be separate).

From here, moving strikes should be much easier to react to and the defending fighter would have more leeway to try and react to strikes, even though the HM/Speed rating discrepancy should still matter — just not as much as when the strikes are stationary. When they are stationary, the difference between the DEF's HM stats and the ATT's strike speed stats should be an even more important factor in whether you can successfully evade on reaction. This is where the predictive evasion should come into play (unless the ATT is gassing or something). Guys like Adesanya and Silva should still be able to evade stationary strikes reactively much better than others, due to their very high HM ratings.

Of course, the player's reflexes should matter as well, but the stats difference will determine what you can do with whom and against whom.

I promise you it does and this carries over to blocking and lunging another huge problem is slipping strikes still having stopping power till the animations been finished. They still can intercept you. There should be greater tuning to this. Test yourself and see if I'm right

                              So heres my list

Further tuning to correct stopping power still had by slipping strikes.
Removal of speed reduction penalty while blocking and lunging
Zero stamina tax on bwd moving stuff arm retreat and 5% stamina tax on left and right directions(if the system I ask for is implemented disregard this.)
1 strike reduction cost to break the block in exchange for increased block strike stamina tax
Slow down after a jab or straight is slipped(if number one is tuned better this will be fine)
True U head movement to avoid hooks
Greater loss of stamina for denied transitions
