What about this is realistic, authentic, and immersive? Why was there such an emphasis on adding RPM to takedowns and clinches if you're going to throw real out the window?
For that matter, I'm aware of what EA is doing. That doesn't mean it doesn't suck.
"For the gameplay." They're talking about the moves and the way fights play out.

Then why put such an emphasis on realism if you're going to allow ridiculous created fighters?
All in all, this is simply a bad idea.

To be fair, thats "gameplay" and commentary. A mode isnt gameplay.

Because they're trying to appeal to all the different portions of the fanbase simultaneously.

There are CAFs in almost every other facet of the game. Leave ranked alone and let the competitive players be competitive.

I assume they noticed how popular CAFs are in Quick Play and drew certain conclusions, plus other factors possibly.

As aholbert said -- they probably saw how many people used them in QF and wanted to give an incentive to use them in ranked. However, this does nothing to help the competitive scene, and in fact hurts it. If a certain style doesn't exist at a certain weight class - such as no pure BJJ artist at light heavyweight - there shouldn't be a way to implement them just by creating a CAF. This only makes people 1-dimensional and ruins the whole point of making people cycle weight classes, since they can just use the same character anyway (or basically the same), doesn't it?

EA MMA had cafs in ranked and it was amazing. The most competitive ranked I've ever played. Can't sign this petition.

How are CAFs with capped stats less competitive?
...precision beats power and timing beats speed... and realism beats meta.

                      Refer to my previous comment.

People are allowed to create completely new styles for weight classes that shouldn't have those styles. Thus, it removes the competitive aspect of choosing your character. Why select a real fighter when you can fine-tune one to fit your style? Part of competitive play is choosing a fighter that fits your strengths and having to deal with that fighters' weaknesses. This removes that part.

Which weight classes seriously have a complete absence of a certain style? I think you'd have to go to the more shallow women's divisions to even hope to find that, and even then I don't think you would.

Even Flyweight has power punchers, and Heavyweight has evasive outside fighters.

Heavyweight has an absence of a pure kickboxer like Adesanya.
Light heavyweight has an absence of a pure grappler like Maia.
Welterweight has an absence of a pure kickboxer again.
Featherweight has an absence of a pure wrestler like Khabib or GSP.
Bantamweight has an absence of a grinding wrestler like Usman.
Flyweight has an absence of a pure kickboxer.

I do not want to fight people using crowns, lachador masks and animal heads. Over the top accessories. This was stated in one of the articles. This kind of thing needs to have its own mode.

Btw, good points all around in this thread. I could go either way really. 2 separate modes makes sense.
