Stamina Management: Why Does EA Insist on Ignoring An MMA Fundamental

Why is there an insistence on letting people throw a completely unrealistic number of strikes? There is almost no incentive to management your stamina and pick your shots. Missing strikes is no big deal.

Stamina management is a key part of the sport of MMA... it is the most important element of every fight. There is a balance between the techniques you can throw effectively and the amount of stamina you have.

Does EA really think casuals need to throw 200 strikes in a round to feel like the game is accessible? I hope not.

There is no excuse for this. Football , basketball, damn... even NASCAR games (fuel) deal with stamina/energy more realistically. None of these sports rely more on stamina management than MMA.

I am not asking for a "sim" style of stamina depletion. But if you land 25% of your strikes and you just threw 175 in one round.... you should not be able to come out fresh in the next round. There has to be a balance. I am not here to play dragonball z or street fighter.

    Come on.

100% agree, every fight is Zhang v. Joanna, Aldo v. Yan, or Hooker v. Porier. That gets tiring, I had no idea if I'm winning the fight or not because we're both just exchanging. Not that it matters because someone will end up getting finished

This game is just a mess.

It's stupid and makes me wonder if there really is any purpose to headmovement. High output of strikes seems much more rewarding than trying to make every strike count.

If anyone would like to try and spam strikes at me on Xbox go ahead and give me a shout @LemusKhan.

You will likely end up leaving round two with less than half your stamina.

Seems like head movement is delayed as well. Problem is the temporary stamina goes up ridiculously fast. I was actually convinced it was bugged.

But basically casuals won’t like it since they’ll gas easier. That’s the answer.

For the purists, there are sliders. I'm assuming that - as they obviously went the casual route here - they want to make it more accessible to people that just want to stand and bang. Granted, they have the kumite for those people, but sooner or later everyone passes by ranked once and it'll discourage them.

Not that I agree, but I'm assuming this is their reason.

For the record: in EA UFC 3 I put the stamina sliders on +2. That felt better.

Oh please. You may have the least credibility with respect to the honest acknowledgement of issues with these games.

When UFC 3 featured ducking uppercuts, you were on here saying pretty much the same thing.

Stamina is not where it needs to be. Period.

If I understood your last point; I agree.

Even if they are catering to casuals, once they hop online and get blasted by 200 strikes in a round (accomplished via 20 10-piece combos) they will stop playing anyway)

You know what will turn off casuals? When they read the instructions and see that you throw a 1-2 with square & triangle but, when they input those commands, only the jab comes out.

Dropped inputs, delayed inputs and ridiculous output will put off a casual way faster than a game that looks/plays like the sport they watch on tv imo.

You can’t find a single post of me agreeing with the 50/50 meta of the original UFC 3. I was one of the most vocal dissenters. The fact of the matter is, if you think you can spam against a good player, you will be drowning before you know what happened.

This is par for the course for you and people like you. Complain about things that are fine, get challenged to prove it in gameplay, shy away. It’s tired at this point.

When damage got a ridiculous boost in UFC 3 I could literally walk guys down and plant them on the canvas with almost no way to get back in the fight. Phillyboi is the only one who took me up on my offer to show him that this change was not good when he thought it was.

I walked him down with Garbrandt three straight times and he changed his opinion. You could stand to learn a thing or two from that mindset.

100% agree. That is his MO. I could have predicted his response.

Frankly, his whole shtick is, and has been, trite.

Once again. Stamina needs to be addressed and I think most will agree.
