Anyone find it absolutely hilarious that the marketing for this game was

We want to make this more accessible for scru *cough* uhh casuals and inexperienced players but the released product is anything but. The sub game and clinch mechanics are an utter chaotic mess. TD are practically unstoppable. The striking is slow, stiff, and has no impact. Good job EA. You managed to not do what you intended but turn off the main player base who would usually buy at launch(like me) and stick around past two months

People who are passive-aggressive about calling casual players "scrubs" are not the main player base. The sim fanbase is a small percentage of the fans for pretty much any sports games.

To EA's credit, they never pushed realism or sim gameplay during their marketing. They're not hiding what they're doing.

Yeah, I don't know about that last one. Hayes straight up said "EA Sports UFC 4 offers the most authentic, intuitive and exciting gameplay experience in franchise history".

He's not wrong, it's the best EA UFC game in terms of pure gameplay but he used the term authentic - means he's saying it's true to the sport in some way, right? The clinch and takedowns, sure, but the striking/ground game is quite a way off.

Online sliders would solve so many of the issues with the striking.

I assume they can confidently say that because of the way they rebuilt the wrestling. EA UFC has never been incredibly realistic, and it hasn't been around long, so saying UFC 4 has "the most authentic gameplay in franchise history" isn't really saying much, but it sounds good.

        That's marketing 101.

I think they try their damndest to straddle that line between realism and arcade. I dont see why, instead of trying to walk that narrow line, they dont just do an arcade mode and a sim mode, not unlike UD3. I mean, it seemed to work pretty well for UD3 so why not take one page out of their book?

They don't want to divide the player base.
