All these things about pride mode makes sense. But the lack of Dana white mode does not imo.

What prevented that? The demand is certainly there and it seems most of the functionality already exists.

The difference is Fight Night was built with sharp corners in mind from the ground up. UFC was build specifically with an octagon in mind.

What should happen when the fighters are pressed against the ropes? Do you go to a UFC style clinch up against an invisible wall, or do you build a new system to support ropes, with new logic and new animations?

Let's say you go with a UFC style clinch (like was done for Kumite and Back Yard) what happens when you start moving along the invisible cage and you hit a 90 degree corner? Do the systems and animations you captured support that?

What if you're playing against the AI and you pin him in the corner. How does he get out? Has logic been built to support that case?

All of these things can be solved, but they are by no means trivial and would take considerable time away from the core MMA gameplay.

At the end of the day, they are making money hand over fist with this series. They could use more profits to solve these difficult, resource intensive problems.

Or, they could have used the time for Kumite, unicorn hair, and backyard BBQ bull**** for this instead.

Perhaps casual was the wrong word to use here, because casual implies they will always be casuals. A better fit is general MMA audience at large, the majority that they want to cater to (more money for EA). Right now, that is a more casual audience supposedly.

At some point, the majority of the audience is going to be different than it is today in 2020. The majority say 5 to 10 years from now will hopefully know much more about the sport. Especially with the globalization of the sport, I believe this will have an impact on the overall audience's MMA IQ long term.

I know this is opposite of the way it should work, EA deciding to cater to us just straight away. EA has shown us that's Not how this is going to happen though. They will only move once forced by the majority of the fight fans.

Popularity and Globalization of the sport is our friend here. We have definitely lost this fight, no doubt about it. But the war is not lost yet. It's just going to take some time for globalization and popularity of the sport to raise the collective audience's MMA IQ.

Yeah this makes sense....if you ignore how EA creates other sports games.

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. The most popular sports game is Fifa. Fifa has not moved toward realism in the past 15 plus years I've been playing it. In fact, its competitor PES is well known as the realistic soccer game.

In fact, I buy Fifa on PC simply because others are willing to tweak the game to make it more realistic. The game at default is pure unrealistic trash.

Now one of the reasons Fifa is more popular is because of EA's exclusivity with different leagues but the reality is EA's goal is never to create a hyper realistic product and in established games like FIFA it doesnt seem like globalization and popularity is forcing them to make a more realistic game.

Or they could use those resources to rebuild the clinch system, and throw in a Kumite and Backyard venue on the cheap because novelty arenas aren't as important as gameplay.

You gotta stop making blanket statements that arent backed by anything. The only proof that you have that the demand is here is some of the 200 people who post here and people on Reddit and other social media sites. By now you guys should understand that isnt proof of demand and isnt likely that to move EA in a direction.

I dont think there is a person in the world who wants a universe mode more than me. I've spent 5 yrs of my life trying to get EA to do it. Ive written documents and talked to several devs about it.

The reality is EA doesnt see the demand. They believe a career mode is the better direction. They have data that shows that the #1 requested offline mode is a career mode and they focus on improving that.

I think that approach is wrong but the argument isnt that "this is what the people want". The argument should be that people will enjoy this because they do in other games (like WWE) and that EA should find more ways to appeal to offliners (who are the majority of people who play the game).

Undisputed 3 clearly just carried over similar assets when it came to positions against the ropes or turnbuckle and it worked just fine.

Well....EA disagrees with you. Let me make this clear. EA could create a pride ring. They could create ring physics that include ropes. They could add animations for things like soccer kicks and knees to the head.

They dont want to because they dont believe the audience they are targeting cares about that and that is what drives a decision to put resources into something.

All Kumite is a new arena (which funny enough appears to have replaced the Saitama Arena (the home of Pride) in the game) and new sound effects. For Pride, you need to do more than that. New arena. New ring physics. New mocap for pride rules (that cant be used in any other mode).

The bottom line is EA doesnt see the value in it that the people here do.

Sad, but true. I just feel like Pride would have been much more of a hit with a casual audience than Kumite. All Kumite is, is an arena, with the same old combat and some 80's porn music playing in the background lol. I remember when UD3 first dropped and my friends would come over and play (casual gamers), they would always want to fight in Pride just cuz of the brutality the ruleset allowed for. They loved how they could stomp on a downed opponent or kick em in the face. Hardcore or casual, ppl like violence. It's sad the devs don't see the real value in Pride. But yh I get it...isn't worth the amount of time and changes for them. We'll probably never see Pride in this series tbh, which is another reason why I keep UD3 around.

Its one of the most requested offline features. Maybe some casuals dont know about it but most people that know about it seem to want it.

If the focus is on career I think adding a online component would make that complete. Is that even feasible?

I'm not a dev but the answer seems pretty obvious:

1) A Pride mode requires money. EA would have to pay additional money to get the likeness rights to Pride fighters who arent in the game. 21 of the 33 fighters that were in Pride mode in UD3 would require EA to negotiate individual likness deals.

2) The audience that EA is targeting likely doesnt know or care about Pride. EA isnt targeting hardcore MMA fans or OSers with this game. EA isnt going to put in resources to create a mode that the target audience they want doesnt know or care about.

They could just give us the pride rule set though
