Does Anyone Else Suck at TDD?

I absolutely can't stop a takedown to save my life. Feels like no matter what my timing is always late.

Are there any high level tips for stopping takedowns? Common mistakes people make?

I know I'm little heavy on the high block. I probably throw too often and don't have great anticipation skills.

Is there anything else that seems to work well for people consistently that I could practice so I don't get taken down 80% plus?

Note: I exclusively play offline against the CPU.

Honestly TDD is too easy imo

But you should go into practice and set the AI to utilizing turning takedowns and have them on grapple.

Just get muscle memory for stopping the turns

Yes. I'm 150% awful. If i'm not pre-denying, then i'm on my back 80% of the time.

Maybe you can post a tutorial or something, because i've done the practice for turning and driving td's and watched all the videos out there.... but come fight time i always get dropped on my head.

I haven't denied a single turning takedown all year. And all that back clinch crap of sometimes you gotta press the stick this way, other times that way, sometimes you can't touch at all... Makes no logical sense to me.

Ground game's still piss-easy, anyway, so I just stall people out on the ground and throw up subs off my back until they get annoyed and stop taking me down.

I felt like this at the start too, the main thing I found is just practise ONLY holding L2 + R2 when they shoot. I found myself holding the stick also and this grants a free body lock takedown as it's taken as a deny for a turning takedown. As said above it's rare I don't defend a takedown now after 1000s of games.

I think that might be my issue too. Hitting both buttons at the same time, and not one then the other or both but moving the stick.

Maybe that's it because for the life of me, I can't imagine my timing is that terrible.

I suck at it. Against people is easier than CPU, at least then you can pre deny. The CPU just won’t shoot if you are already denying.

Surprised so many people are saying this, not just here but in other threads. I mean it’s really just a matter of instantly press both triggers, then make the read on the direction change. Sometimes you get taken down anyways, even though you’d swear you denied it. But overall it’s pretty easy.

Does Anyone Else Suck at TDD?

I would actually find myself only denying the turn about half the time and didn’t know why because I knew I would be hitting the right direction.

The answer for me (and probably many others) is that I was holding my left stick during the initial takedown animation and then trying to counter the turn. Because I had my left stick already in a direction it took a fraction of a second too long to deny the turn even though I picked the correct direction. You can try to press both triggers early to deny the takedown completely or hold back on the stick as well to go into sprawl, but it rarely works.

You have to make sure you let go of the left stick entirely when the takedown starts and then hit the direction when it begins. No need to panic because you actually have a lot more time than you think to deny it. It’ll take some muscle memory but once you get it down you will almost never get taken down in open space. Hitting the triggers early is irrelevant.

Great detailed advice. Thanks man, I'll give this a whirl.

Yep. I think I'm guilty of this.

Well this is encouraging. These are things that can be practiced.

I've been practicing and I'm getting a little better. Your advice worked, thanks. I was definitely thumbing my left stick at the same time i was pulling my triggers. Tough habit to break but I'm conscious of it now. Thanks dude.

I prefer, as martial says, to force the takedown. Stand your ground and don’t fall behind the black line, piece them up. With the undeniable back take its not even a question. Generally if I’m against someone good I do a lot of predenials too.

With the stamina drain now, imo the striker has the advantage. Stamina isnt nearly as much a problem for strikers as it is grapplers.

I feel like a noob can just do turning takedowns on me over and over again and I’ll miss at least 75% of them. I’ve even worked on it in practice mode but when they throw head strikes then shoot and do a turning takedown I can’t deny it quick enough.
