Yes, but how would they implement that? Match the input along with a defensive button? I doubt they'd get that through testing.

Played a little yesterday and saw they "improved" the game with some new tights. The superhero tshirt, though gimmicky, I would consider, it it was tucked in so you could actually spot the line art / textures. And without a top piece or gloves to match it just looks out of place (but then again, what of the clothing isn't...). In the end I always just end up with the standard UFC gear, but that's fine.

R2 and square to parry jab r2 and triangle to parry the straight. Would easily get through testing as its much like the block counter for the lead hook.

That does make sense. I was thinking of all possible strikes, but I guess you have the current defensive options for that.

Yeah, use the elbow controls to parry. Parry is just not something that can be put into the game without being spammed. I’ve played every ufc game for over 10 years and the parry on UFC 2 was a nightmare. It essentially ruined online play. A jab is one of the safest strikes to throw with sway straight, sway hook, and then parry counters. Jabs and straight would be way too risky.

If all else fails you can put in a cooldown system, but they must find a way to visualize it. The ground game has a cooldown system but it's hard to grasp when it expires. Or use WWE's reversal system, where you only get 3, though that would make very little sense in this context.

You cant spam them because you have to anticipate the correct strike. Guess wrong and you'd be vulnerable.

Re: Things ufc 5 can do to improve.

The most baffling changes made from UFC 3 to UFC 4 are many of the input changes.

Most notably the takedown initiation and even worse, the takedown defense..
I won't get into the stupidity of how wrong it is to have LITERALLY the same button input for body block, leg kick check, and now (in UFC 4) ****ing takedown defense too..

Why make the game so easy and so based on character stats as opposed to player skill? Now the right wheel stick isn't even being used in the standup other than head movement alone. Initiating the clinch or shooting for takedowns feels a LOT less satisfying and clunky.

In UFC 1,2,3 there was a certain art to stopping takedowns and now it's just too easy or too hard because the stats just take over! Or maybe you happen to stuff a perfect takedown because you made a mistake thinking a body hook is coming but instead it's a takedown and you're rewarded for it. It's just dumb.

Clinch and Takedown offense/defense controls were exactly what they should be, and now they're not just worse controls, but the fights are worse for it especially because everything feels less satisfying and less rewarding.

Please MMA is a beautifully complex sport, there's so much room for an incredible MMA game, there's already game modes for casuals (KO mode or w/e it's called), don't dumb down the entire game for everyone involved. Make use of the right wheel for grappling/grappling defense because it's more fun, and involved more skill and creates more room for mistakes that players can set the opponents up for. Holding LT+RT / L2+R2 for 3 ****ing types of defense is dumbing down everyones abilities as an MMA gamer.
