This game would be so much better without the UFC license
Imo the license itself is holding back development. Imagine a game more like the very first EA mma with ONE, Rizen and bellator and it would probably have a kickboxing mode as well. Instead of that you can have a lion wearing a skirt. Great.....Tags: None -

Apart from a 10-count you basically have kickbox mode. And the license will no doubt help sell the game. It just needs a better CaF mode. -

How is the license responsible for the CAFs wearing shirts and masks in the octagon? Quite the opposite I'd say. Developing a UFC game should limit them to official trunks. Also I am sure it has cosmetics (like gloves) from pride and strikeforce. The issue is that they wanted to attract players who are not into UFC and thus having all these weird cosmetics.Comment

The license doesnt really pose the problem. We can't even select trunk colour and type like before on the official fighters, resulting in many out-of-date fighters. I'm more put off by that than i thought as it doesnt impact gameplay.Comment

That's one thing I couldn't stand about Undisputed, the fact that you could be one strike away from losing, almost like an invisible health bar. Really held back what was otherwise an impressive game. One of the devs was on the Undisputed message board hinting at that being part of the upcoming patch, and as fate would have it, THQ went under before the patch was finished. I think to myself all the time "what would UFC games be like if THQ Yukes were still making them?" I mean the grappling was almost perfect, the stand up admittedly could have been better, at the very least more fluid. The stand up was definitely on the stiff side but damn did it feel good to land one well placed strike, be it a Liddell overhand or a Cro Cop LHK. They included tons of signature strikes and moves, something EA has somewhat failed to do.
But you gotta think, that was TEN years ago.......10 years of improving upon what they had, 10 years to improve the visuals and animations, 10 years to rework the damage system and we could be playing something truly amazing had things gone differently. Really sobering when you think about it. I still to this day play Undisputed 3 to scratch my MMA and fighting itch. I try so hard to love EA UFC I truly do, but at the end of the day there's just too many things holding it back. Really hoping the extra long development time is put to good use on UFC 5. IIRC UFC 4 took a while to develop and come to find out, the extra time was spent on.......costumes, masks, and backyard arenasComment

Honestly we can all boil it down to us repeatedly buying the game and showing ea that we will support them making a sub par product.Comment
