The thing I like about this game is that there's never going to be a point where you've mastered the game so much that you're guaranteed to win every time. I feel like I'm pretty solid on expert right now, but there are still moments when I do something stupid and get caught or subbed.
      BULLSEYE!!.....

In past boxing games, say frazier Vs Ali....once you've "figured out" Ali , you're gonna win all your fights against him using Frazier all the time. This is what killed fighting games in past years. Even on Advanced, my win rate was 50-50 because of the unpredictability of the fights. I remember completely dominating Rua for 2 rounds and a half and little compact left hook dropped me. Never had that feeling of danger before in games as I do in this game. One small mistake by you or one small maneuver by the cpu could mean the end of the fight.

I am absolutely gushing over this game, no demo has gotten me THIS addicted before. No 2 fights ever feel the same, it just seems too good to be true.

My real hope is that they will have sig moves for most of the fighters on the roster. I haven't followed this game at all, and it came out of left field yesterday via the demo.

Could really compete for best sports game of the year and this will really help increasing the UFC fanbase.

just 100% impressed with this game.....

Edit: good thing you can get submissions on Chuck on expert , that means it's realistically possible, especially with fighters who will have lower submission defense.

well Chuck has outstanding defense so I can understand why its hard to submit him. Just have to make him tired to so he can roll around much.

The real submissions will happen in versus when its a button mashing marathon

The more I play the demo, the more it makes me not wanna buy the game. The Ko's are WAY over done. According to the demo 99.9% of UFC fights end with a KO with the guy lights out on the ground. I realize I may not be Mr UFC and know everything about it but I think I've seen enough fights to know that's not the case. I'd like to see the results more even. More knockdowns then ref stoppages, submissions, lasting full 3 rounds or hell even some consistancy as to why that punch/kick knocked a guy out. Considering I got knocked out once and the replay showed the kick barely grazed my face.

I think THQ could have helped themselves and released two lightweights with the demo or maybe one guy who was good as subs and one who had crappy sub defense. That way we could see exactly how they fight. My only fear is that this game will turn into Fight Night Round 3.5 online.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on many of your complaints. But first I have to ask you what level you're playing on and who do you normally use?

Not saying I'm the greatest at this game, but most of my fights go late into the third round and very recently I've been going into decisions more often (advanced). I will say this, if you play aggressive going for the home run knockouts, I can guarantee that you will have a short fight.

I play on the level below expert, believe it's advanced. I normally play with Shogun as his style matches more what I prefer to play as. So I normally am pretty conservative with my play style. Pound the body and legs and try to get it to the ground. It just seems like every time in the 2nd round Chuck will knock me out with a kick or punch. If I play as Chuck, I still normally get KO'd it's just normally from ground and pound. I very seldom see actual knockdowns, let alone a knockdown then a ref stoppage. I realize my ground game sucks, so maybe that's part of it because I'm on my feet too much.

Yeah, stay off your feet and you won't get knocked out, it's really that simple with Rua. Once in a great while, he'll tag you and flash KO you and there's nothing you can really do abnout it, but normally, you can really control the tempo of the fight with Rua. I've only lost 1 decision as Rua because I'm able to control the fight and catch Chuck's kicks for takedowns, etc. Most of my decisions (tend to get more decisions on Advanced than lower levels also) are 3 point victories for that reason -- you score a lot via takedowns.

And if you're gonna stand with Chuck, you've gotta be really careful, keep your hands up at all times, and don't try many high kicks, as that's when Chuck normally responds with that damn superman punch or a kick of his own, both of which are likely to put you out if it's a counter attempt.

It's pretty easy to beat Lidell at stand up if you use the correct technique (and I'm talking about expert level here). Like Stumbleweed said keep your hands up at all times and stay on the outside, attack him with body kicks as they keep him at a distance where he can't counter with a superman punch and just keep going at the legs and body until he tires or his body turns red raw. The AI gets used to leg and body kicks and will start automatically defending low - that's when you hit him with a head kick. From there on he should be a couple of kicks or a MT knee from getting knocked out.

I'm right there with you on this game. The unpredictability is what draws me to this game. The 3rd match I played in the demo I was DOMINATING shogun and was thinking "just 3 more big hits he's out" then all of a sudden I went for that knockout punch and landed into a high kick that sent me on the ground and shogun pounced on me until the ref stopped the fight. I'm not one who likes losing but it was the best lose I've ever suffered in a fighting game.
The different styles and how they affect the match are great. If the career mode and CAP looks promising this is a deffinate 1st day purchase for me.

If you're playing against Chuck the main thing you want to do is keep your hands up. Hold high block if you're in probing range or close. Use your step kicks to keep him at a good distance and wear him down. When in close don't brawl with him, either clinch and bring him down into your guard by using the stick or catching one of his high punches into the clinch then bring him down into your guard.

If you're in probing range go for the take down. When you go for a takedown one of three things will happen:

                          1. He'll defend against it completely and you'll both return to your feet.

                          2. (My favorite) he'll stuff you and be hunched over your back. From there you can hold LB and do a minor transition and pull him into your guard.

                          3. You'll get the take down. from here you can work using minor transitions until you get into a favorable position.

Really learn to use Rua's rubber guard (hold LB and do a minor transition). It's extremely effective. Once you get used to it you'll actually prefer fighting on your back.

These techniques will wear Chuck down and make it less likely for you to get knocked out.

Man, this game is the ****.

Me and my boy were up playing this game the whole damn night. ITS ONLY A DEMO.

What's amazing to me is the fact that we enjoyed the hell out of this game, and we don't really even follow the sport. So I know it must be ten times better for those that do. But, it did end up getting us interested and wanting to follow UFC.

Plus, we don't even really get all of the controls. Kind of button smashed our ways to victory. I did know how to do one thing fairly consistently which was Chuck's "Superman Punch". SO many victories with that move. LOL

I've been following the progress of this game for a long time, and I expected it to be good, sort of around 8.5/10 stuff, but even after playing the demo this is at least a 9.5.

The variety of the KOs, occasional submissions, the styles of the fighters, the graphics. Everything points to a wonderful game on release.

You can really notice the difference between Rua and Liddell. Just a shame they couldn't have put in an extra fighter or two to give us more variety and a better idea of how the fighters respond.
