I'm pretty excited about a couple of fights on the June Strikeforce show.
Nick Diaz vs. Scott Smith
Robbie Lawler vs. Jake Shields
I'm pretty conflicted about who to pull for on the Diaz/Smith fight because I like both guys a lot. Smith has been in some amazing wars. His win over Benji Radach was the type of gutsy performance that you'd expect out of him. Radach was beating him up with crisp boxing the whole fight and then "Hands of Steel" blasts him out of nowhere.
A lot of people hate the Diaz brothers but I'm a big fan. Nick's punching power doesn't look like **** but apparently it's enough. His in-your-face style really seems to give a lot of guys trouble. I remember being shocked when he boxed up Gomi lol. Nick should be the favorite here but I wouldn't be surprised if Smith pulled out another spectacular finish.
Jake Shields has great Jiu Jitsu but I don't think he's winning this fight. Hopefully my man Robbie Lawler just does his thing on the feet and finishes him off. I don't think Lawler gets the credit that he deserves, he's an awesome fighter.
With all that being said, I really hope that Strikeforce gives us a Diaz/Lawler rematch at some point in the future. Their first fight in UFC was crazy and right now they're two of the biggest names in the organization. It just makes sense for them to go at it again.
