HW division is just such a wierd division. I feel like it's constantly in such a odd state.
HW is weird as hell and its always been.

One fight that completely supports your original point was Bisping/Hendo 2. That was strictly and entertainment/storyline fight and had no business being for a title (even though it was a fun fight). I'm still irritated that that fight took place when guys like Jacare deserved a shot.

Ali act will hopefully expand to mma. Something like independent rankings and independent titles all fighters can fight for would be in order.

Bellator 171 on now, Guillard v Njokuani is the main event. Interesting fight, would expect a finish either way, both coming off finishes.

Guillard with a elbow KO over Rickels which was overturned tho, Njokuani with a jab KO 20 secs in. Should be fun.

e: Bruna Ellen > Carmella James via decision ...

Jarod Trice > Kevin Woltkamp via r2 tko ...

Tyrell Fortune > Will Johnson via r2 tko. Prospect, undefeated so far.

Jordan Young > Chris Harris via decision. Dominant performance, lot of circle right and 121.

Gaston Reyno < Justin Overton via r2 sub. Fun fight, grappling clinic with overhand right and rnc.

AJ McKee > Brandon Philips via decision. Decent fight, lots of room to grow for 21 year old McKee.

Jessica Middleton > Alice Yauger via decision. Middleton almost finished few times but Yauger was tough.

David Rickels > Aaron Derrow via r3 tko. 10-8 level dominance, nasty gnp finish against the cage.

Melvin Guillard < Chidi Njokuani via decision. Close but no finish. Lots of feints, knees and liver kicks.

UFC Issues Statement Addressing Controversial Travel Ban

UFC Issues Statement Addressing Controversial Travel Ban Executive Order.

U.S. President Donald Trump's recent executive order instituting a travel ban has come under scrutiny across the globe. Considering the possibility that it could affect its business, the Ultimate Fighting Championship recently issued a statement regarding the order.

President Trump signed the executive order, often referred to as the “travel ban,” on Friday. The direction of the order bars refugees from entering the U.S. for 120 days. It also put a temporary 90-day ban on immigrants from seven nations identified by the Obama administration as “countries of concern” for terrorist activity, according to the Trump administration. The seven countries are Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia.

Although the UFC is based in Las Vegas, it holds events globally and has many fighters and employees from around the world. Among them is Iranian-born Dutch national Gegard Mousasi, who recently expressed concern over what the order would mean to him.

“I don’t know,” Mousasi told MMA DNA, when asked what the travel ban might mean to him. “The UFC is working on it. The lawyers and guys that take care of the visas. I just have to wait. They’re gonna change some things probably in a couple weeks, because there’s a lot of protests. I just have to wait and see.”
Mousasi is, of course, just one example of someone that might be affected by the executive order. The Ultimate Fighting Championship and its new owners, WME-IMG, have many other employees under similar circumstances, and they are of course proactively addressing the situation.

“We are aware of the federal travel ban,” UFC officials said in a statement released to MMAWeekly.com. “There are numerous variables including a judicial injunction. We are monitoring and will be affirmatively engaged to ensure that our fighters and employees are able to compete and do their jobs.”

UFC announces New York economic impact study results from UFC 205

UFC® today announced the results of an economic impact analysis following its historic UFC® 205: ALVAREZ vs. McGREGOR, which took place on Saturday, November 12 at Madison Square Garden. Results of the study concluded the landmark event made significant contributions to the city and state of New York with $37.4 million in economic output and $18.3 million in salaries and wages. The event also supported an estimated 300 jobs in the New York metropolitan area and generated $1.6 million in taxes for the state.

“Mixed martial arts competitions have already proven to be major economic drivers across New York, and the jobs and revenue generated by this event illustrates the enormous impact of this growing industry in our state," said Governor Cuomo. "I look forward to seeing the further growth of this sport continue to foster economic activity, help create jobs, and further establish New York as an international entertainment hub."

UFC has pledged to hold at least four events per year in the state for the first three years since the passage of legislation to legalize and regulate professional mixed martial arts in the state. The global brand recently announced its fourth event in the state will be UFC® 210: CORMIER vs. JOHNSON 2 on Saturday, April 8, at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo.

"We said it from the very beginning, we knew New York was going to be huge," UFC President Dana White said. "It was a dream come true for the athletes, for the fans, and for our company to host a UFC event in ‘The World's Most Famous Arena.' The numbers don't lie, a lot of people came out to support us and we're going to keep doing this up and down the state."

“This record-setting event would not have been possible without the tremendous support from Governor Andrew Cuomo, Speaker Carl Heastie, Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle, Senator Joe Griffo and many others from across the state,” UFC Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ike Lawrence Epstein said. “We look forward to hosting many more historic events throughout the state of New York, including UFC® 208 on Saturday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn and UFC® 210 on Saturday, April 8 in Buffalo.”

UFC 205® served as the global brand’s inaugural event in New York City and first in The Empire State since 1996. The event set numerous records, including a live gate of $17.7 million, which was a historical mark for both UFC and Madison Square Garden. UFC also set attendance records, global and domestic, with 15,480 at the weigh-in and 20,427 at the fight, respectively. UFC 205 also established commercial Pay-Per-View (locations / gross revenue) and social media (14 billion impressions) records, while more than 1.8 million fans watched preliminary bouts on FOX Sports 1, marking the third-highest UFC prelims on the network and most viewed ever for fans M18-49 / P18-49. UFC, in partnership with Reebok, created its first-ever event-specific product line, which recorded the highest U.S. retail performance in history. The event also made history as the first PPV event transmitted live globally in 4K.
