Re: OS MMA Random Thread
Coming off UFC's announcement last night that they have signed former WWE champion CM Punk to a multi-fight contract kicking off in 2015, PWInsider.com has learned that Bellator MMA is also looking into bringing in professional wrestlers for their MMA promotion.
PWInsider.com has confirmed with sources within SpikeTV and close to the Bellator promotion that a gameplan has been devised with the idea of bringing in current and former pro wrestlers to augment the Bellator roster, which currently features former TNA champion Bobby Lashley.
The idea, as it was explained, is to utilize the wrestlers' natural speaking ability as a way to create "storylines" and garner attention for the SpikeTV-owned MMA company.
Bellator's recent relaunch under former Strikeforce owner Scott Coker featured a number of pro wrestling-inspired elements.
While we cannot confirm any wrestlers have been contacted as of this writing, the two names that were floated to us as an example of the style and level of talents they would be looking at were Alberto Del Rio and Brock Lesnar.
Del Rio, who has fought MMA before, recently settled his breach of contract issues with WWE. Lesnar, a former UFC Heavyweight champion, is currently under a WWE contract until April 2015.

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
Cormier is trying to get him to come to ATT. Ronda already tried to get him to come to Glendale.Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley are recruiting CM Punk over Twitter to join ATT.
It's cool to see fighters support him rather than calling him out. Two class acts they are.

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
Nah this suit is dead in the water. Hard to argue antitrust when fighters have actual other options. UFC counsel will just show the high dollar contracts that Rampage/Tito have in Bellator, Fitch and Shields have in WSOF and Askren in One FC to show that fighters have other options. You cant compare the UFC to the NFL or NCAA or NBA and you cant penalize the UFC for doing a MMA promotion better than everyone else.http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2014/12/1...n-class-action

The video game/licensing argument is a non starter too. These are adults who sign contracts that govern licensing. They receive compensation for those rights. They could choose to try to negotiate to keep those rights when they sign the contract OR they could refuse to sign the contact and fight for another promotion.
Its much ado about nothing imo. The only thing that sucks for Zuffa is that they will likely have to open their books and show how much money they have made.Comment

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
That is most likely the whole reason for the suit. Same reason the NFL won't open their books. Once they have that info, they can form a union and then use that info to demand certain pay.Comment

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
Which is fine but you have to get to the discovery phase of the lawsuit to see the books and I dont know if this suit is even strong enough to get past a motion to dismiss. Second even if you do get to that phase, Zuffa will likely argue for a protective order/attorney's eyes only provision which means that only the attorney's can view the Zuffa books. So fighters wont be able to use those books to argue financial points during a union/Zuffa negotiation.
It will be interesting but I find it laughable the amount of joy people at Bloody Elbow have about this and how BE compared this to the O'bannon suit when it isnt even close to the same. Keep in mind the FTC looked into the UFC back in 2012 regarding antitrust and monopoly charges and filed no charges and this was after they bought Strikeforce.
The Federal Trade Commission has concluded and closed a six-month, nonpublic investigation of Zuffa LLC., the owners of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and
The biggest hurdle for the UFC is actually the uniforms and the restriction of additional sponsors. The UFC may have to rethink that.Comment

Re: OS MMA Random Thread
the way the lawsuit sounded it was gonna be a bunch of people but its basically guys who couldn't cut the mustard in UFC anymore last i knew Fitch was fighting for WSOF that lawsuit will fall flat and i dare say these guys will be blackballed from UFCThis lawsuit is starting to get pretty big. Cung Me, Nate Quarry, Jon Fitch, and Sean Sherk are all affiliated with it.
My pitchfork is ready.
