Im sorry guys, but this game just will not compare to FN IMHO. The striking and physics are far superior than this, and the ground game of UFC is garbage. This is where UFC should have shined and it didnt. There is no way to check leg kicks, leg kicks do not make a fighter limp. You cant press people up against the cage which is very important for the Thai clinch to be effective and a realistic strategy. It also makes GNP less effective, and you cant use the cage to help walk yourself up from a takedown.

Now I know many of you are going to say that MMA is much more complex than boxing and a harder game to program for, and you are correct, but there are just certain things that you just cant leave out. This game has a great base, and I can see it being something amazing in the future, but right now it just isnt there.

With all of this said, will I be playing the game and enjoying it? Hell yeah! The create a fighter alone will have me enthralled for hours. I love me some El Guapo. This is whant makes me angry though. His Leg and body kicks were and still are to some extent some of the sickest to ever see the ring or cage, and this game wont do him justice. Sam goes for Pat Barry another up and comer that has amazing kicks.


Please dont flame me. I was just looking to get a good discussion going. I mean, imagine when the type of physics in FN are alive and kicking in a UFC. Then we will see a serious ground game.

This is interesting. There is a huge thread for demo impressions. It's on the first page. That would obviously be the perfectly place to post one's impressions of the demo.

But the OP felt that his impressions of the demo were so important, so vital to the discourse surrounding the game, that an entire new thread had to be made for it.

As for the important, vital opinions, I simply disagree. I'll absolutely admit the UFC game isn't perfect, and I expect FNR4 won't be perfect, but I've already had a lot more fun playing the UFC demo than I ever had playing FNR3, and I doubt FNR4 will be nearly enough of an improvement over 3 to sway me.

I dont even know why people would compare these games. I never heard anyone comparing Knockout Kings and Pride FC in the past. Checking leg kicks is about 80th of my most important features in a game. It would be nice if it was in the game but so would a lot of things. Same with cage interaction. Also, I'm not about to compare a game in its 4th edition to one in its 1st.

I don't know what flame is. I guess it is the internet slang for telling someone like it is. but the general theme in your post seems to be that you are asking for to much.

basically that is like saying FN rd 3 should not have ever been created because the physics in it were nothing that special. Same ol boring fights over and over. BUT because fight night rd 3 was released now you have a product they built upon and made Fight night rd 4 that you talk so highly of. So my comment to you is come back to earth. Every product has to start somewhere and i think the amount fo stuff that got in, in a FIRST YEAR RELEASE is amazing detail.

So while it might not have everything u ever dreamed of. It is a amazing product.

I agree with you, and that is part of my post too. I cant wait til better physics are applied to the UFC game that way throwing people around, and rolling will feel more lifelike and hopefully give the cagesome attributes as well.

Thats true. While I doubt there will be all the things I have stated, they may have added a few more things. I just see so much potential for the game. I mean it is a blast to play just the way it is, but I am a sim sports gamer, and it is the nature of the beast I guess. I always want more realism.

I see many people on the net complaining about flash knockouts, but I love them.

1.There has not been a MMA game on the market worth a damn since Pride FC, which dropped in 2003. UFC 2009 is THQ's first attempt at an MMA game. Of course everything (cage dynamics, southpaws, etc.) is not going to be in the game the first go round. But I can tell you right now that I prefer UFC 2009 to Pride FC right now.

2. The Knockout Kings/Fight Night series has been around since 1998. If EA cannot not deliver an authentic representation of boxing (which has less dynamics than MMA) after 11 years of going at it, then quite frankly they fail at life. I would hope that they do better than UFC 2009.

Just how is the ground game garbage? Submissions are a bit on the difficult side but otherwise what's the problem?

Also I don't know what demo you're playing but it's apprently the wrong one as in the demo I play leg kicks do make the fighter limp.
