Re: IGN Review.....7.6(Good)rating!
I don't like IGN so it does not surprise me with the rating. Some guy who has no clue what MMA is and just scored the game. I did not read the review but just my guess. -
Re: IGN Review.....7.6(Good)rating!
Actually, the review was very fair and his points were good ones. He wasn't blindly bashing the game or just nitpicking. In this case it's better to pay more attention to the review itself than the score.

UFC 2009 Undisputed has its fair share of issues for an up-start franchise, but that doesn’t mean that UFC fans and non-fans alike won’t have fun with the game once they get the complexities figured out. The career mode is fun and well-designed, the combat is cool and visually engaging, and the classic fights mode is sure to please UFC aficionados. If THQ can fix the blemishes and speed things up quite a bit so the physicality and true athleticism of the sport can shine through, we could have a serious contender on our hands.Impact de Montréal

Would you have rated it differently? If so, using IGN's scale what would you give it? Just trying to get someone elses opinon.Comment

I think the reviewers giving it perfect scores are being far too forgiving.Impact de Montréal

Re: IGN Review.....7.6(Good)rating!
I'd give it about an 8. Very much worth buying, and a good first title in a franchise, but it is a bit shallow in a lot of ways. I nearly didn't buy it because of some of the deficiencies, like career fighters not aging, 10 nicknames to choose from (which is insulting on a modern console, especially after playing The Show for the last couple months with their huge first and last name DBs), only four venues. Stuff like that. I'm glad I got turned around and got it, but it isn't a flawless game by any means.

I have spent about 10 hours with the game. Any reviewer giving this a score over 8.5 is out of their mind.
The IGN review is very fair and the game is a 7.5-8.
Regardless of the faults, the game is 100% for sure worth buying and it is an awesome template to build on.Comment

Re: IGN Review.....7.6(Good)rating!
review scores should be the 'overall' for a game. when it's all said and done, despite it's flaws it's easily...EASILY one of the best games I've bought for the 360. I'd give it a 9, understand lower scores, but anything under an 8 is bullroar to me. Look at other games w/ 7.6 ... .like some sites gave pretty mediocre games that. Is this game no better than quantum of solice or ridd ick? or about a hundered other games w/ that score? This game stands head and shoulders above MOST games that have been released in the past 5 years. It should be recognized as such.
edit: you don't have to go back that far...xmen origins got a better score of 7.8 there is simply no way that is justified.Last edited by allBthere; 05-19-2009, 04:55 PM.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment

Its funny how people never like a site or magazine when they give a review they dont agree with. I like the game, but I do agree with most of the review.Comment

Re: IGN Review.....7.6(Good)rating!
I also like the review. I've always liked IGN - above all because they often do not get caught up in the hype and instead give games reasonable ratings.
From what I've heard from you guys that already have the game (I live in Europe, release date Friday, but I'm getting it from ma&pa store tomorrow, and from what I've seen myself in the demo, the impressions in the review sounds fair. Lots of the things he brings up I've had doubts about myself - like for example the tons of flash KO:s but the complete absence of flash submissions. Granted, flash KO:s happens more often than flash submissions - and without playing the full game myself, I don't know how hard it is to submit anyone other than Chuck.
That said, I think the reviewer is unnecessarily harsh. I've played all the FN games, and I've been longing for sooooo long to get a decent fight game that rewards strategy and planning your game, not just button mashing. And considering the challenge the developers had - I mean, just look at the quality of the fight games we've seen so far - they deserve a proper pat on their back.
And while I'm at it, noone has mentioned this yet - but what about all the small stuff! I still haven't tried the game out yet myself, so this is all from your impressions but anyway - sweet mother of all that is holy!
- Career mode with proper length, so you can't cheese your guy up to insane ratings; immersiveness - sponsor deals, I saw interviews on a screenshot, e-mails, etc
- Practise mode where you can tell the comp what to do so you can train against it - blocking, submissions, and so on
- Sparring mode so you can train realistically against your next opponent - seriously, I've been playing sports games for ages, Madden since the very first year on my Commodore 64 - have you guys *EVER* seen a scout team on any other sports game? Closest thing I've seen is when you got to play a few hoops against your scout prospects in NBA 2k8.
THQ has come through and done WONDERS with this game. I have been project managing software development myself, and I know how easy it would have been to just make a half-assed product and cash in on all those idiots out there who'd buy a game just because they can **** some guy up like they see people do on PPV every month.
I'm so hyped I'm getting this **** tomorrow. I can smell the sweet beginning of an epic god damned franchise. And I never believe the hype.Comment

Re: IGN Review.....7.6(Good)rating!
It is best, most fair review IGN has done in years.
If only they would treat EA games with the same care, gamers would be in a better place right now.
That said, UFC is an awesome game. Hope it sells well so we can get a yearly release.Comment

Re: IGN Review.....7.6(Good)rating!
My second issue with the fighting in UFC 2009 is that there's a definite lack of speed when you compare the game with actual UFC bouts. Because the gameplay looks and feels so much slower than actual UFC fights, we miss out on a lot of the animalistic actions and intensity that happen in the octagon. The result is a less organic and more mechanical fighting experience that doesn't recreate the real UFC as well as it could have had the framerate been pumped up. It's still fun as hell to get in the octagon and punish some dude's face, but if you're a diehard fan of the real thing, you're sure to notice the discrepancy.
This right here is straight out of left field.Comment

I'm sorry, this quote is blindly bashing the game.......

I think it is on point. There is a speed/artistic element that is slightly missing. Doesn't affect the fun value...but something they can enhance next year.Comment

Re: IGN Review.....7.6(Good)rating!
The game speed thing is nuts. I've got pretty solid reactions, and I can't dodge a punch to save my life. It's a complete accident if I happen to time a flick of the stick with an incoming punch. If the game was sped up, I can't even imagine.
The only way I could think of someone having that complaint is if they're basing it off of their CAF early in the career mode, when they've got like a 30 in speed and they gas after a flurry or two.
But with fighters with real attributes, there's no way the game is slower than the real thing.
The thing that I think Undisputed suffers from when it comes to some reviews is it's a poor 'checklist' game. I mean, if you went down a checklist, you'd find areas to mark it down. The career mode isn't incredibly deep, there could be more fighter customization, the soundtrack is limited, etc.
But when you play the game, it's fun. And that's the most important thing. When I'm playing, I don't really care that there's only six songs in the soundtrack because I'm having so much fun in the fights. But if someone's reviewing the game, sees there's only six songs, they think they have to mark the game down for that.Comment
