An Idea for the Submission System

*First off, I would just like to say that I am not complaining about the current submission system.*

I will say though, that the submission system would have been much better if it used the same formula as the rest of the ground game.

Submissions have three levels that one must succeed in before they are able to get their opponent to submit.

--> First is initiating the submission (clicking the stick)

----> Second level, which would be the first position your fighter is in once you initiate, when you begin to furiously tap the buttons/ rotate the stick

------> When successful in the second level, your fighter will then move into a deeper position (third level), right before they fully lock on the submission.

The main factor for getting a submission now is the energy level of the fighter being submitted. While I agree that it should play a large role in whether a submission is successful, It should not be the determining factor every time.

Now, the base of the submission system is great. Three steps before getting your opponent to submit makes sense. It allows the person being submitted multiple opportunities to escape. There is a risk/ reward for the player attempting the submission. Having to either mash the buttons or rotate the stick however, is the wrong way to have to progress through these steps.

Now imagine if you were able to keep the steps listed above, but instead of having to either mash/ rotate, completing a successful submission would be a matter of completing those steps with minor and major transitions.

A system that would work like this:

--> First initiating the submission. The player being submitted should have the opportunity to block or reverse the initial attempt. If the player attempting the submission is able to initiate then they would be in the second step.

----> Once the submission is initiated the player attempting the submission would have completed the first step and would have multiple options from here. One would be to go through the remaining steps by minor transitions, which still could be blocked or reversed by the opponent, or have the ability to attempt a major transition and bypass the remaining steps and lock on the submission. This would lead to more "flash" submissions. The player being submitted would always have the option to again, block, reverse, or try to transition out of the submission.

------> Third step would be the final position right before the player completely locks on the submission. Again all the same rules would apply from the previous two steps.

    * Just like the general ground game each attempt by the player to transition that is blocked would cost the player energy.

    * Blocking transitions would be less successful for a player with low energy.

    * This system would allow for more depth between grappling disciplines. For instance the pickup slam from the armbar that is currently a brute force escape, could be done by wrestlers using a signature transition (LB modifier). Other disciplines could use the LB modifier to transition to more favorable positions. Outcomes of reversals or defensive transitions would depend on the situation and what step in the submission the player is currently in.

    * On the defensive end, this would eliminate brute force escapes. However If a player wanted to transition back to their feet they could transition without using any modifier. Think the current major transition from half guard (which leads to the defensive player getting back to their feet) and the LB modified transition from half guard (Which leads to the defensive player reversing positions). The type of each defensive transition's success rate would depend on the fighter's attributes.

*Submissions from bad positions with low success rates (kimura from closed guard), would be easier to transition out of than transitions from good positions (mount).

This would add much more depth to the game play, while making the submission system more skill based.

i totally agree, submissions can be done quick or slow, and the system right now doesnt allow for many flash subs.
