The reason why Subs are hard to pull off against the CPU is...

because their energy replenishes too fast. I played with the energy bars displayed yesterday and noticed that CPU recovers too fast in comparison to the amount of damage you inflict on them, which is the reason why submissions are so hard to pull of against the CPU. I guess THQ did this too make the game more challenging, but in doing so they made the ground game a bit unrealistic. THQ need to focus more on the overall submission rating as opposed to determining the success rate of a tap based on stamina. I've seen numerous MMA matches where a fighter gets tapped out almost immediately. If a fighter has a 90+ submission rating, he should be able to tap out a fighter with a 50+ submission rating regardless of his stamina. I'm not saying that stamina shouldn't be factor, but in this game it has priority over a high submission rating.

This only applies to the CPU opponents because against another human opponent it seems more balanced.

I have no problem pulling off subs against the CPU.

Agreed... I play on Expert only and still get subs fairly easily, though the successful attempts do mostly come after they've been tired out (though that can happen as soon as 1:30 into the 1st round). The system definitely needs refining, but I actually find it much easier to submit people in the retail version that it was to submit Chuck with Rua in the demo (Expert)...

The CPU tends to pace itself striking and doesn't get too aggressive to where they blow their wad.

It depends on who you're fighting too though. Some guys come out and just start slugging it out with you.

That too -- the stamina bar replenishes just as quickly for human or CPU players, but the CPU paces itself for the most part. The only time it doesn't is when it gets into mount (or sometimes side control) where it'll just start freaking out and spamming transition attempts trying to get out... that's why it's generally easiest to submit them from mount or side control (as well as those positions being dominant).

In my career I ended with a 100 sub off rating and only had 2 subs my whole career. I had Brock Lesner so tired he had no bar left, I pull guard, rubber guard, triangle, and he gets out, I stand up and do 1 side kick, and good night. I was so pissed I wanted a sub bad that fight.

I'm pretty sure there's something wrong with career mode. I had a guy with 81 sub offense late in career and couldn't sub Mike Swick on beginner with no energy left with him worked down to the minium possible (as it seems to be required late in career that you have to get them down that far before a KO or TKO),he got right out of it with no struggle at all,his strength is 60 and sub defense 65 so it shouldn't have been a problem and it wasn't in exhibition. Then I start a new guy and get 3 subs in a row.

Weird, I won my first 4 fights via armbar from mount on Expert in my career. I've been able to submit other top-tier fighters pretty easily in my career -- my guy (MT/BJJ doesn't have crazy ratings but is already on his 5th title defense... I think he's only at low-70-something in submissions.

My sparring partner kicks my *** every time at this point, but I've been powering through the Welterweight class on Expert with little problem, including plenty of submissions from various positions (mostly from mount but also a triangle choke from rubber guard, a rear naked choke, etc.)...

Like I said,I won the first 3 with a new character and had no problems there, the real test is seeing if you can win the last 4. Something goes horribly, horribly wrong towards the end.

I don't see how guys are saying its easy. I've yet to see a submission, regardless of who I fight with.

I'm right around 100 fights or so. (vs. CPU)

Same, only had 3 or so on the demo and zero with retail

I've been forcing myself to submit the CPU in my career to make it a little more challenging. My last few fights have ended in subs over Florian, Sherk, Penn, and I believe Griffin or Edgar.

At first, it was a big problem for me. Now I've got no problems with it. It's pretty fun trying to catch the AI, actually. I've been going for some crazy submissions like flying armbars and stuff just for the fun of it - and because I just need Submission of the Night to finish that career achievement of getting all 3 "of the night" honors.

Ya, I havent been able to sub anyone yet...and believe me, its not for lack of trying. I've let fights go on so much longer than they have to just tryin desperately for a sub. I have 92 sub offense with the bonus, tied for best in the game and I havent been able to sub a single person as a middleweight. I tried for 2 rounds to sub Bisping, had him down to about 1/4 of his stamina bar...and I know its kinda cheating, but I'm trying to improve my game...anyway, I waited for the bar to be yellow and then spam subs...my stamina was close to full...about 85%, completely green, I try the power move (my fighter has 81 str, second only to Hendo in the weight class), the tech move, hell, I even tried both at the same time, nothing worked. Eventually I just gassed myself and then accidentally KO'd him with a hammerfist. Ugh, next up is Hendo, he has the lowest sub def of the top tier MWs, hopefully I can work his body to get his stamina down and then spam the tech subs
