The Ground Game Makes Striking Seem Primitive

with the ability to create strategies with sweeps and transitions, the stand up game seems almost tacked on.

No true bobbing and weaving, paralyzing body blows and combos that don't string into takedowns all fuel me feeling this way.

Am i the only one that feels like this?

Nah. I enjoy striking just as much. Love going for the knockout.

Bobbing and Weaving is a must for next year's version...which Dana confirmed BTW.

I like the bobbing and weaving, but lets get rid of the stuck in the just got punched/kicked animation so I can't block or move.

While I agree to an extent, the depth of striking compared the depths of grappling does look primitive in comparison IRL.

That getting paralyzed thing is such a pain in the ***. Too many people try to abuse that online.

Bobbing and weaving should definitely be a priority, glad to hear it will be in the next one. I have a lot of Fight Night in the blood, so I have the tendency to move my stick sometime when I see a punch coming even though I know he's not gonna move lol.

Sorry Pap, I meant to say next year's version was confirmed by Dana yesterday...Not necessarily that there will be B & W.

They just need to take the suction off when you are being hit, and the problem is solved. I dont know why they have this, and why it is so strong.

I mean I only play my 6 buddies online(got tired of disconnectors), and I rarely ever lose against any of them, and even I can see it is a legitimate complaint.

Another problem they need to fix is that the fighter drops their hands when the are stepping in any direction. This makes no sense and should never have past the first beta.

Last night I played 2 people who once they landed one punch they did nothing but that same punch until I fell down or got knocked out. It's not fun to do that. Now as soon as I see someone is doing that I just walk into the kitchen for something, because there is nothing I can do anyways.

That is not true. You can block and back out, or press up or down on the right stick to catch them. It isnt hard to get out of it, just stupid in how it works.

Re: The Ground Game Makes Striking Seem Primitive

i love the striking. I use a lot of 'quick' attacks like jabs and straights to set things up.
My latest evolution is learning people's striking patters and actually blocking body shots which I never used to do for fear of taking big head shots.

I also don't want them to get rid of the being hit factor. Maybe reduce it a little bit, but it rewards people for hitting first. I really haven't had a problem...you can block the shots. just try blocking to the body if you're getting hit there a lot.

I also hope they are very careful with altering the controls - adding something like bobbing and weaving will be very difficult if they make it a control

My idea was that since strikes and other things are automated depending on many factors (clinch range, knee raise for someone shooting etc) ...bobbing and weaving should only apply to someone with a great 80+ strikes defense rating. That is instead of blocking you slip punches giving you greater counter shots.

This can all be automated - you'll block if you're trying to cover up after being hit already, but if you time it right you perform slips and weaves automatically. I don't want a modifier + stick to perform these and mess up the controls.

Yeah tried that, all I do is stand there. If someone wants to spam you into a frozen state it really isn't that hard. They might have had turbo controllers, but I tried to counter grapple, back up, take down, swing back, everything, I just stood there.

We will have to hook up and play sometime, and maybe I can see what you are talking about. I mean I know what you mean, but you make it sound 10x worse than what I experience. My name is my GT. Ill be on tonight.

I agree with this thread, but also in the context of UFC vs. FNR4... I just can't get down with being so limited in movement to shuffling around and punching. UFC is so much more dynamic due to the ground game and various clinches -- FNR4 is pretty impressive under the hood, but it's just not as deep as UFC... it's just impossible, since there's so much more to MMA than boxing (especially in videogame form).
