    Trouble with submissions?

I consider myself to be a rather "advanced player" and usually play on expert or advanced, but it seems like i have trouble escaping my opponents submissions. I do everything the tutorial says, mainly using brute force escape due to the higher rate of success, but still usually get tapped out, no matter who i use. Any tips?

I think the consensus here was that Rotating the right thumbstick works better than the button smashing.

I do that for the most part and don't get submitted too often on the higher levels of difficulty or against other players.

    But, I may be wrong.

Rotation of the right thumbstick gets you into an advantageous position, but brute force may be better. It really depends on your fighter and his strengths.

Mash more than one button??? Other than that try spinning the stick but dont use your thumb. I have to spin the stick with my palm.

The actual escape method isn't nearly as important as your fighter's state when the sub is attempted.

If you're gassing yourself out attempting to transition or escape, or punching yourself out, then it doesn't matter what you do. Rotating the stick works well for me, but if I had a fighter that's got a high strength rating, the BF escape works too.

Either way, if you're gassed out, you're tapping. If you're constantly getting submitted, I'd look at the rest of your strategy to see what's putting you in a position to get tapped out like that, personally.

so do you push the button in AND rotate or just rotate?
            thanks

One or the other. If you're attempting to do both, you're not going to be rotating fast enough to make it worthwhile.

Yeah, the issue isn't "escaping submissions", it's not getting yourself in that position in the first place. Odds are that you'll tap no matter what if you're totally gassed.

                  Re: Trouble with submissions?

Unless you have 70+ strength, always use the "shine" technical escapes... otherwise it's not worth the reduced effectiveness because you won't slam them to get out, you'll just punch a few times and stand up. At least the technical escapes give you side control -- and a developer FAQ a while back specifically said that rotating the stick is more effective for both getting and escaping from submissions. Take that for what it's worth... there hasn't been more confirmation beyond that, but I ALWAYS use the stick rotating method and have only been submitted 2 times online (60-17 ranked, plenty more player matches) and not too often by the CPU (though it's definitely harder to escape against the Expert CPU than a good human opponent).

The biggest key though is making sure you don't end up in that position, as others have pointed out... I find that the CPU submits me more often on those counters from the clinch when you try to slam/trip them than anything else... seems like those submissions are more effective than normal.

                    Re: Trouble with submissions?

This is a game where ratings matter. I rotate to get in or out of submission. I used wanderlei a lot, who stamina isn't great and I get submitted a lot for me. I'm pretty good with the stick, so if I get submitted in the first round, I'm convince the person has a cheating controller. if its the second or beyond and ur fighter is gassed, its curtains.
fool me once... shame on me.
