    GSP VS Anderson Silva

Some people believe that the only way St. Pierre could have competition is if he goes up a weight class and fights Anderson Silva

I love BJ Penn, but sadly I think GSP is just in another level. A bump up to Anderson Silva could be looked at as a mismatch but could also be a much closer fight than most would expect.

      Hopefully it never happens.

Well unless GSP just vacates the WW belt and fights at MW full time.

I dont think rumble has the takedown defense or the ground game to hang with gsp right now, he's got the size and the talent, but he's still raw, its gonna be a while before he's a threat to gsp imo

Silva vs GSP is surely a money fight everybody is thinking about but "officially" nobody is talking about.

I don't buy too many UFC cards but IT would be one I would.

He would at least have a better chance than Alves in the takedown defense department. He was a stud D2 wrestler and is even bigger than Thiago. But yeah it probably still wouldnt be enough.

he's got huge reach though too. He would be a bigger problem than alves imo. So maybe he should fight rumble and if he can win that fight he all but deserves a fight with a.silva and should move up for good.

although the down side is he's a small MW and would have size disadvantage in almost every single fight.

Rumble is good and all - and a fun fighter to watch, but he's not even close to being in GSP's league. That fight would be a disaster.

I kind of think that too, but can't picture gsp's strategy, and that's why it's intriguing to me. rumble is huge w/ big reach, great wrestling and powerful strikes.

gsp is fast w/ great accuracy --- who's taking down who if at all? would gsp try for a sub?

                    Re: GSP VS Anderson Silva

I think people look too much into his strikes and size...

GSP has fought great strikers already - and dominated them. He's fought some pretty big guys, and dominated them. He's fought great wrestlers too - and dominated them.

Johnson's size is great and all - but his skill set is nowhere near GSP's; I don't think his reach or size would really come into factor all that much.

And also - who's Johnson beaten so far? Reiner, Speer, Burns, and Fioravanti... Let's talk about GSP when he actually beats someone worth talking about.

I feel safe in saying that anyone that gets choked out by Rich Clementi is not going to beat GSP. Come on, Johnson's a good fighter, but at best he's on Fitch's and Alves's level, which is arguable, but he's certainly not anywhere near GSP's level.

As for Silva, I think that's an interesting fight. Silva can be taken down. If Travis Lutter is able to get inside and take down Silva, GSP will be able to. And GSP's got some solid jiu-jitsu, so he wouldn't be easy to submit. Silva would be the favorite, but I can certainly see how GSP can win the fight.

i don't think anyone thinks he'll win,....but I do think he's better than who they are going to match him with. They will match gsp with swick or kampmann. I think Johnson would beat swick, and probably kampmann too, and I think swick will probably beat kampmann although it could be a great fight.

It's not about who will beat gsp, it's about who has the best chance - and it aint mike swick.

                            Re: GSP VS Anderson Silva

GSP vs Anderson will basically be GSP striking with anderson for a bit, eventually taking spider down, controlling him on the ground, with a moderate amount of ground and pound mixed in. An elite wrestler like GSP is pretty much immune to submissions, add to that GSP recently got a black belt in BJJ aswell. And its not like anderson silva is some submission mastermind, he seems to use his bjj for defense more than anything.

I think the only chance anderson has of winning is to keep a good distance and strike with pinpoint accuracy using his superior reach, and hope to hurt GSP enough to finish him off standing. GSP has no fear of takedowns, only of strikes. Anderson will have to fear what every other GSP opponent has, a mixed game of strikes and takedowns that makes them unsure and tentative (can't be overly aggressive or ur going down). Also anderson will probably have to take out some of his more flashy head and high kicks, cuz those will probably lead to takedowns. If GSP's chin is really suspect (seems to be fixed now after that serra back-of-the-head fiasco), then anderson has a chance. If he isn't fazed by his strikes, well then GSP should take the fight fairly easily. Being an elite werestler is a huge advantage, as he can take the fight wherever he wants whenever he wants.

Swick should get the next shot @ GSP. I think he's got a fight with Kampmann coming up, hopefully he handles business.
