unless he's fighting TOTAL CANS, he's the one who gets his 'lights out'.

more and more boxers or old retired ex boxers and getting into or threatening to get into MMA...it's not good imo.

Why wouldn't it be good? A professional boxer would have an advantage over almost everyone on their feet, all they would need to do is work on their ground game.

No worse than pure wrestlers who transition over to MMA.

Totally different imo. I think its much easier for a wrestler to learn how to strike versus a boxer learning how to wrestle or work of his back. Also a boxer in a boxing match stands differently then a boxer in an MMA match because they have to be prepared for a takedown. Toney will be a disaster in the UFC.

I'm going to take the "wait and see" stance for James Toney. No one really knows if he has been doing any complete MMA training. He seems to be a fan of the sport so he could surprise some people.

As far as boxers in general. It all depends on how hard they work on their ground game, same as wrestlers learning to be good on their feet.

That would be fun, wouldn't be surprised to see it happen either. I guess a lot of people don't take into account that he's fighting in the UFC, and that while they have him they're probably going to put him in the most entertaining fights possible. Most likely someone that will stand and bang with him.

I find it to be suspect when a boxer decides to enter MMA after he cant get any major fights in Boxing anymore. Same goes for Mayorga. Toney had crappy cardio when fighting for championships in boxing. He always undertrained. I just dont see him getting a work ethic at 40.

You can only do that once. Kimbo isnt going to fight only strikers for long. You dont think Mitrione will try to put him on his back as soon as possible.

Well the guy in your avatar isn't at all one of the most well rounded fighters in MMA, yet he has had a little success.

Again I'm in "wait and see" mode with Toney. You're probably right about his commitment issues.

But again I wouldn't write off boxers in general.

I love Daley but his "success" has come from fighting people who wanted to stand with him. The last time I saw him fight someone who wanted to take him down he was dominated Jake Shields. I'm interested to see him against Koscheck and see if he's improved his takedown defense and wrestling.

He's the a top ten Welterweight with little ground game.

A professional boxer entering MMA who works on his ground game just enough for it to be "good" has a great chance to be successful.

As for Toney. I don't know if he's had any complete MMA training or not. But if he's serious about this he could surprise some people.

Not saying he is though, like you say, he could be too old and uncommitted.

Kimbo's already choked out Ray Mercer too in a crappy little fight league. Nickname could be "the old boxing wash-out beater"
