    let's play matchmaker

I tried searching a few times looking for similar threads because I didn't want to start a new one. BUT

After watching the last couple of UFC events there are a couple of clumps of fighters that I want to fight each other kind of like that group of 6 tourney in boxing.

in the WW division here are the fireworks I want to see:

    Dan Hardy
    Paul Daley
    Anthony Johnson
    Tiago Alves

boom. I want all of their next 3 fights to be against each-other. Those are the most exciting fights you could see in the division imo. That's 6 fights I believe.

I couldn't predict all the winners and they would all be wildly exciting.

There are other 'clumps' like this in other divisions, but to me this is the most exciting.

do you guys see a clear winner among those guys?? All of those fights imo are flat-out AWESOME!

I could see Rumble coming out on top against Alves and Hardy because Rumble has a wrestling backround and they havent shown good takedown defense. I mean it was against GSP but if Rumble did fight those guys and I was his trainer, that would be my strategy.

The jury is still out on Daley. Lets see how he does against a top-caliber wrestler like Kos.

You think Rumble would initiate takedowns against alves and hardy? I don't know..he hasn't shown that, and seems to be uber-confident in his standup.

I see all the fights I posted being stand and bang fests until someone is hurt and resorts to something else. In fact, if anyone does anything different I would think maybe alves tries to take down johnson because of the height and reach difference.

You make a lot of good points. All of those fights would be awesome. I think we both agree on that.

I still don't think Hardy is as good as they're making him out to be. Alves' takedown defense is actually really good. Heavyweights at ATT have trouble taking him down. GSP just made him look like a ragdoll.

True. I think all of the possible fights mentioned would be great.

Daley has worse take down defense than both Alves and Hardy.

but let's say Daley fights Hardy or Johnson - no one's needing their takedown defense. Do you think Daley would beat Johnson in a stand-up war? These matchups have no front runner really and any one of them can knock the other one out at least it would appear that way to me.

Last UFC was supposed to be Fitch vs Alves - I would just love to see the top 'killers' fight each other - yeah someone like fitch might beat all of them, but let's see what they do to eachother.

Of all the 6 possible fights it's almost as if Hardy/Alves is the most likely (which is still awesome) ...I hope in the next couple of years we get to see all 6 scenarios.

I think both Daley and Hardy train at the Rough House so i dont think that fight would happen.

good point that never even occured to me...that one would be the most edge of your seat out of all of them potentially too.

Since Alves is coming off the injury and hardy just lost, that's why i saw that might be the most likely since i guess fitch is next in line (which is lame)

it's a decent matchup, but that fight won't happen until/if fitch loses to gsp.

Rumble's a dynamic striker, most likely fitch would neutralize him, but he could get caught too. I just think Fitch wins that 8 time out of 10 though.

I'm only saying that because of his fight with Kos, even though I know there was some bs mixed in that one (or at least some strangeness)

what I'm worried about is that instead of hard vs alves, they'll go with alves vs koscheck or hardy vs koscheck and ruin this thread becomming reality.

Yeah, that's why I said Daley had the worst take down defense. At least Hardy and Alves went down at the hands of better wrestlers like GSP and Fitch.

But, if any of these 4 were to fight each other it would stay standing up that's their strong suits. Hardy and Daley are both excellent strikers with KO power in their hands, Rumble has the huge reach advantage and KO power, and Alves has the muay thai skills with some nasty knees.

Oh ok. I personally think Fitch will get the next shot at GSP.
