Report: Silva vs. Sonnen is the next Middleweight Title Fight

    http://www.411mania.com/MMA/news/135...Next-Fight.htm

"Dana White was just on Jim Rome is Burning and stated that Anderson Silva's (26-4) next fight will be a middleweight title defense against Chael Sonnen (24-10-1). He did not announce a date for the bout. White also stated that if Silva ever acts like he did at UFC 112 again, that whether he is the champion or not, he will cut him."

Good. Not a fan of Silva, but it's sure going to be nice to watch him shut Sonnen up.

You know Anderson isn't gonna **** around in this fight.

I'm hoping it gets scheduled soon because its not like he took much damage in the fight with Maia.

Big talk from Dana, maybe that threat will make Silva fight for real instead of toying with his opponent. If not, he'll probably just go fight elsewhere and be a big draw... he kinda forced Dana's hand though, as he would have no confidence putting him as the headliner for another PPV without threatening him with something.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Dana is organizing some free Spike event to make up for that PPV, maybe even putting this fight there. He explicitly said he'd make it up to the fans, so I'd like to see something like that. Good way to hedge his bets on the PPV thing too, because another disappointing Silva performance wouldn't be as bad on free TV...

I really wish Marquardt would have pulled out a win against Sonnen. At least Nate is a well rounded fighter who has the confidence to stand with Silva. That fight would have been exciting.

I like Silva but he isnt exactly a big draw now. You think he would be a big draw if had another subpar performance, was cut from the UFC and signed with Strikeforce? A Fedor/Silva fight would be HUGE but there isnt anything else out there after that. Dana has all the leverage here.

Sweet - let's put him up against yet another guy who has weak striking. Awesome idea. Instead of challenging Silva on his feet, let's put him up against another ground fighter. Because that's worked ****ing great the last few times.

Re: Report: Silva vs. Sonnen is the next Middleweight Title Fight

How far away is Belfort from fighting? Will he be available in 2010?

These are the guys I want silva to fight:

                  Belfor
                  GSP
                  Rua/Machida

so fighting Sonnen means that he will only fight one other guy in 2010 (possibly not even that?)

This is not going the way I wanted it to, and now Sonnen could potentially be Silva's last fight in the UFC. We may never get to see Anderson fight any of those guys I mentioned

I wish Dana would give us Silva/GSP.

Sonnen doesn't have a prayer against Silva. This fight is just a question of whether Silva will come in determined and give him the Forrest treatment or if he'll dance around.

Belfort would've been better for Silva at 185 anyway. Don't know why they would give him another somewhat weak striker.

I've seen that belfort will be unavailable until probably November or December. That's definitely too long to wait, but yeah, this Silva-Sonnen fight will probably be another snoozer... not excited about it at all.

I'd let Silva try and clean out middleweight first before you start giving him superfights. If he fights Sonnen in August, then that would set up a Belfort fight near December.

If Silva thought Maia disrespected him with the things he said in the prefight interviews (which is complete BS, Maia is one of the nicer fighters and was probably just trying to sell the fight), I'd like to see him prove that same point against Sonnen who's been running his mouth since he beat Marquardt.

Silva strikes me as the type of guy that wouldn't give a damn if he was cut from the UFC.

I really don't think he takes that threat seriously, but if he did he still probably doesn't care.

I hope Silva changes his attitude because I want to see him truly challenge himself like he's already said he wants to do against GSP/LHW's etc. I believe he would dominate GSP and then dominate the LHW division outside of Machida because they wouldn't scrap.

Also, Sonnen is about to catch a beatdown. It's apparent Silva pays attention to pre-fight talk.

I truly hope that Anderson takes every negative thing said about him and turns it into a two minute annihilation of Sonnen.

                              Unfortunately, I doubt it happens.
