Re: Rumor: UFC 118 Couture vs. Toney in Boston
I wanna watch this fight, nuff said. ha
Well Couture is a boring fighter to watch, matching him against Toney actually adds some excitement and anticipation.
Randy is 46, Toney has the best boxing in the UFC. Throw them in the ring and lets see what happens.
No need to complain.Last edited by Vast; 04-26-2010, 04:50 PM."I'm addicted to Video Games, and i chase it with a little OS." -Winston ChurchillComment

Re: Rumor: UFC 118 Couture vs. Toney in Boston
Wasnt Fedor in EliteXc when Randy resigned with the UFC? I still dont see how this fight makes sense and honestly dont care if hes been asking for it as we just got done watching him fight Mark Coleman and that was a terrible fight that he was amped for. I dont see why Dana would want to "talk up" a fight pitting MMA vs Boxing, its a complete lose-lose situation. IMO, boxers should stick with boxing and when they cant do it anymore then retire, same can be said for the MMA guys, Im not a fan of watching over the hill boxers try MMA. So, say Toney comes in and catches Couture and knocks him out, what the hell do they do with a guy coming off a loss to a washed up boxer? A guy that is still under contract for multiple fights and now youve got next to nobody to build up a fight with? If he loses hes going to be down to fighting Chuck again, Tito and maybe Mirko but thats about it, its just stupid business imo. If Randy wins, and Im sure everyone assumes he will, then what? It shouldnt move him any closer to the belt, it does nothing other then use up one of his fights on his contract and nothing more. IMHO, if your willing to basically make Randy a gatekeeper then give him some young gun like Jones who can actually use a win to catapult himself into title contention, not a washed up boxer who has no shot in hell at the belt.
Plus, no one really has to work their way up to a title shot, it's all about marketing. If Randy decimates Toney they can still market him as the baddest man on the planet and give him a title shot based on that hype alone if they wanted to.
If Toney does somehow win this, he also has signed on for several fights. You can match him up with another popular fighter, like a Chuck Lidell, and again you have a fight that's going to draw a lot of interest and probably make a lot of money..::..::::::::.:.:.:.:....:::.:.::::..:.:::....:::: ...:..::."When you're an assassin, you don't have a conscience"-Gilbert ArenasComment

It's not always about fighting for the title, it's also about making money. Couture vs Toney is a high profile matchup for the UFC and Randy can probably expect a big payday. Randy also has a point he wants to prove.

Re: Rumor: UFC 118 Couture vs. Toney in Boston
I guess the biggest difference between you and I is I question how big a name James Toney is. I dont follow boxing anymore and while Im familiar with his name, I have a hard time believing that hes a big enough name to draw interest and for that reason alone I dont see the fascination with the guy. I guess I look at this as a possible disaster if Toney wins, another excuse for the boxing die hards to tear down MMA and the UFC in specific and I dont want to see that happen. If Toney comes in and gets destroyed then so be it, but if he comes in and catches Couture and knocks him out, which could VERY easily happen, I dread the amount of crap thats going to be circulating the air waves.
this. this. and THIS.
hows it gonna make MMA look if an old, has-been boxer comes in and KNOCKS OUT a legend of the sport and arguably the most recognizable name in UFC history. terrible, thats how its gonna look. just awful.Comment
