Belfort vs. Silva tentative for UFC 125

Chael Sonnen's positive steroid test has created a domino effect in the UFC's middleweight division, and the biggest beneficiary is Vitor Belfort, who will be the next challenger to Anderson Silva's middleweight title.

UFC President Dana White announced on Twitter that Belfort will fight Silva for the belt. Contrary to reports that an injury forced Belfort out of his previously scheduled bout with Yushin Okami, White said Belfort is healthy and has simply been moved to the top of the list of title contenders.

Now we all know about the PED issue. But Belfort fighting Sliva I think is a horrible match up for Vitor. I love Belfort and one of my favorite fighters. He is a beast and has tremendous speed with power. But I think Silva will slaughter him. Belfort will play right into Silva's style of counter punch KO.

Silva KO's Belfort. I will be surprised if it goes 2 rounds.

      Nice.

I had absolutely no interest in seeing Okami/Belfort and much less Okami/Silva.

How weird though, as it seemed Vitor suffered yet another injury. I'm happy.

Hopefully Silva wrecks and then moves out of that weight class to finish out his career..

Vitor isnt injured. White pulled him from the Okami fight when he heard about Sonnen's suspension.

        Two other rumored fights:

        Leben v. Stann
Jon Jones v. the winner of Lil Nog/Bader.

Yeah I know he isn't anymore, but initially a few nights ago I read a report that Vitor had suffered an injury so I went from really bummed to really happy

          A. No more Vitor/Okami fight
          B. Vitor/Silva is finally happening

lol, that free germany card loses another marketable fighter. The UFC also pulled crocop off for 119 this weekend.

Umm really? Can you post a source for this? I can't find anything that says that.

All I can find is that Cro Cop has an eye injury, but nothing about the fight being cancelled. If you could link to a source it would be appreciated.

Yeah there was talk earlier in the week I believe that he may have to pull out due to the eye injury, but he's recently been cleared and the fight is good to go. That's likely what was being referred to.

No, I said the UFC pulled Belfort and Crocop off the 122 germany card for other fights, probably since it's free anyways. I never said crocop was pulled out of 119 this weekend. Sorry for any confusion.

I completely agree with you here, Silva is great counter striker, plus Belfort is aggressive.

I just want to thank Dana White for again screwing the real number one contender, Nate Marquardt. How much A** does this man have to beat before he is rewarded his just desserts. I mean come on, Vitor has had what, one fight in the UFC!? I mean, Vitor has great victories against top notch talent such as, Terry Martin, over the hill Matt Lindland, or that once great fighter Rich Franklin. This is why I am done with the UFC. Give the fighters that work for the title shot the title shot, and stop this catering to the masses for a dream match. Vitor is a very good fighter, but if his past is any indication of things to come, then he will crumble under the pressure, and will end up biting the mat. Listen, if your punishing Sonnen for steroids against Silva, then give Marquardt the benefit of the doubt for facing a possible roid induced Sonnen himself.
