Re: EA Sports MMA Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)

That gives me great hope in career mode that I won't go undefeated easily, since anybody with a decent amount of BJJ can be a threat. Odd thing about is that the only submissions that give me fits are the chokes.

Mainly I get caught shooting in and they get me in a guillitine when my stamina is already low. I just let out a calm oh crap, I just F'ed up.

Anybody else notice how a fighter strength really matter in this game ? With Lashely or Miller I can easily bully people around the ring. I kick people off me with ease, get out of clinches with ease, transition with ease.

On the flipside using Shields or Overeem, I can't do those things with ease. Really takes some freaking effort to get out of somebody's clinch grip with those guys.

Same thing goes with the striking. Lashely and Miller have heavy hands, they can drop people with ease with a good clean shot. However their kicks are weak. Overeem kicks and knees are awesome. Shields to me......is only good with takedowns. Pretty much average with everything else.

I can't wait to play with people with some really great kicks or BJJ skills. Dare I say it.....ratings seem to matter on here ?

With a couple of fighters, I can take a hell of lot bombs to the chin without getting rocked. Then you have the other 2 where a few bombs to the chin and they are either rocked or dropped.

Same thing goes for submissions. 2 of the fighters you can last in a sub hold a pretty damn long time and survive. the other 2 nope, can't survive in a long sub attempt.

Couldn't have been less impressed with this demo. It felt like I was playing a last gen game, controls too clunky, strikes looked ugly, etc... UFC is not the best but it's still a lot better than this game - judging by the demo.

Try knocking them over and then instead of pounding on them attempt a sub or try to grab them while they're standing and you're on your back.

I'm getting really good defending the takedowns now. IMO when you get the sprawl down, this game is really good. I can just sprawl Lashley then press triangle to stand up and beat him there. Love the stun punches then the finisher! So sick!!! I love the parry too. I became a counter striker with Reem after 50+ games. Too bad I don't have extra cash to buy this game.

Played a few matches. I like the ground game a lot better than UFC Undisputed. I really like the fact they implemented the vibration signaling a transitions.

But I dislike the stand-up game. In fact, it seems like there's no stand up game. This is where UFC shined. It's a negative for me, because I love the boxing/kickboxing aspect of MMA. Last but not least, there is just way too many takedown attempts, gosh they were getting annoying.

Game has potential though. They just gotta tone down the takedown attempts, and polish the stand-up.

But still, I'm on the fence of purchasing this.

Actually there is a stand up game. CPU attempts to take you down because that's their forte'. You need to learn how to defend the takedown and beat them on stand up. Also, once you learn how to parry this game is sick!

I haven't played too much of the demo, but I have a feel for it.

First off, my brother had a go at it. He's a big UFC fan (even though he won't admit it, he thinks UFC > all other MMA), and he's training to get into fighting. He loved UFC Undisputed, but due to financial tightness, he had to sell his 360. For him, his quote about the game was that "this is the biggest piece of monkey **** I've ever played." For somebody that 's been wanting to play this for a while, it gave me a sour taste in my mouth.

Then I finally get my hands on the game, and I think that the thing that he hates about it is that he hasn't learned how to play it. A lot of people are going to be hung up on the controls, but quite frankly, they are really well made in this game. I like the parry system, and I like the ground game A LOT better than UFC Undisputed. My brother could "shine" the stick so fast that nobody could gain control on him, and now he has to fight for the tapout.

I like the new things EA is doing with the game, from the cage to the ring. I hope there are a ton of rulesets, because that will make the game that much deeper. I sorta was on the fence about this game, but after playing it, it's going to be on my case with Gran Turismo this winter. Very well done EA... so far at least.

BTW, there was a poster in here that was talking about Fire Pro Wrestling. I played it at my uncle's house on his recommendation, and I absolutely love it. The problem: I have a PS3 Slim that isn't backwards compatible. Is there anything I can do to experience FPW on my PS3 (like in the PSNetwork or Store?)

Well I had my first decision last night. In order to have the fight last the long, I had to avoid full mount and/or only throw 2-3 strikes before waiting for the AI to finally attempt to get up. I cant even remember the number of times I ended up in mount off just reversals. My whole problem with this game comes to just the AI while in full mount. The rest of the game I was enjoying. Looking more and more like a first day purchase for me. Funny thing is I had a lot more to say but work was so busy today I forgot a lot of little things I liked.

Wow. The striking is much more responsive with the "classic" controls. It really opens your striking game, especially since the left trigger becomes the body modifier.

Initially I was reluctant to give the "classic" controls a shot because I'd become pretty good with the "Total Strike Controls", but man, what a difference.

I recommend to anyone currently using "Total Strike Controls" to try out the "classic" setting. Your grappling will suffer at first, as you'll be pressing "B" to defend takedowns and such, but the re-learning is well worth it.

Give it a shot. It can't hurt. Not like you're the one getting punched in the face.

One of the things that annoys me is the use of the right bumper as the body modifier for punches. The control scheme they have for FNr4 would've worked well for the kicks also, with one of the triggers being the modifier for kicks.

Apart from that, this month is going to be a sports game month with MMA and 2K11. Definitely looking forward to these...

Good job by EA with the demo too.
...we held several meetings to discuss the future of the franchise. After going through those meetings, it became very clear that the vision I had for the game was different from where the leadership wanted to take it. I parted ways with EA shortly after...

I made a thread suggesting that the fake modifier and body modifier be switched, the kick and high low should be right next to each other its too awkward to to have the high low modifier for kicks, plus its just awkward holding the button and then trying to throw a hook. maybe everyone who wants the high low modifier moved should post in that thread so if there are a lot asking for it, anim8tor can relay the info back that there are a lot of people who feel that way.

Ok so yeah another day and I have yet to see or be able to do a leg lock of any kind. I don't know if it is disabled in the demo or what. But surely Mayhem should have some kind of leg lock.

Tried doing it from guard top, guard bottom, standing in guard top, standing in guard bottom.

The only joint locks I see in the demo involves the arm. Speaking of which, I noticed they only attack the left arm when it comes to armbars and only attack the right arm when it comes to kimuras & americanas.

But anyway I am thinking they disabled leg locks in the demo.

Got some of my buddies coming chill at the house for the LSU game today. We going to be playing alot of the EA MMA demo against one another. Most of them have downloaded and been playing it so it should be some stiff competition. I will let you guys know how it goes and if there is any issues I see exploitable in Hum vs Hum

very casual fan.....I play on Legend, you have to be ready for everything, sometimes i get popped w/ punches so i try to block and then get took down...its soooo much stuff to worry about.

I thing dashing in necessary, getting some space between you and the CPU b/c if you stand in front of them they will be very agressive...i need the breathing room so i can 'think' as my reacting is terrible at the moment lol.

I noticed if you can land a couple of good shots, you can get aggressive and try to get the KO/TKO...kinda real b/c I saw it in the 'few' fights i've actually watched. But imo the CPU just doesnt take them they will try to take you down. I'm assuming its a real life reaction as i've seen it in real life street fights..getting you arse handed, try to tackle him lol.

On thing that's hard for me is not getting pressed up against the cage, i dont know how to push back or push them against the cage. And deciphering between rumble...the cpu sill be kneeing me then go into a throw...the controller would rumble on the knees and i would have a chance to 'notice' the throw.
