WEC and UFC merging in 2011! This is great news. I think 4 UFC events coming to VS in 2011 as well.

Awesome, I love the WEC -- they put on such great fights, and this certainly paves the way for an Aldo/Edgar and eventually (HOPEFULLY!) an Aldo/GSP fight.

Why? The UFC just added more weight classes and more fighters. That equals more fights. Dana is aware there is a recession and I doubt this equals more PPVs because the market cant handle. More likely than not, this leads to more free fights on Cable or a national network deal because they need more places to show the fights.

Also this may lead to more PPV fights. Lets not immediately jump to conclusions that this will lead to less UFC fights.

Dana thinks Aldo will fight in January defending the now UFC featherweight belt.

Less UFC fights? With adding these new titles and fighters to the UFC stable there would have to be more UFC fights which is a good thing. The UFC is in the money making business, maybe there will be more free shows, but it won't be the likes of Aldo or Faber anymore. The guys that draw will certainly be relegated to PPV. By mid 2011 I fully expect all of the former top WEC guys to be fighting on PPVs.

There you go, looks like Aldo is already tentatively booked for the Jan PPV.

Great news. I've been saying for years that UFC needs a featherweight division.

well this move was expected since the UFC bought the WEC. Took long enough really. Great for the WEC fighters that will get more money and exposure on the bigger stage though.

I meant "less free fights". I even refrenced there would be more fights in the first paragraph.

I just dont see the negative either way. If what you predict is correct this equals better UFC PPVs. For example say Aldo fights Jan 1, that makes a card I wasnt planning to buy a must buy. Or if he fights Super Bowl Wknd, that makes a packed card even better.

Aldo and Faber are both stars but they arent headlining PPV stars yet. The one WEC PPV card with them in the main event did well for WEC standards but would have been a flop if it was a UFC card.

Also, the UFC makes money on the "free" shows. They get a ton of ad revenue from Spike and Versus. They need fighters to push those cards so I dont forsee Dominick Cruz, Torres or Faber always being regulated to PPV cards.

Henderson is the LW champ and I bet he gets the next shot at the Edgar/Maynard winner if he beats Pettis in December.

Just seen this on TSN.ca and holy ****! Awesome! As if the UFC already didn't have the best fighters in the world, they just added a handful more.

Love the addition of a featherweight division now too. I'm guessing the next TUF could be a featherweight one.
