Re: UFC 131 (Vancouver): Carwin vs. Dos Santos

Lesnar said he's not retiring but I wonder if he's ever going to fight again. It sounds like if he doesn't have surgery, he might have to deal with this issue the rest of his life.

He's set for life financially and he's a dedicated family man, his best move is probably to retire.

I don't remember the last time 2 straight PPV Main Events had to be changed due to injury.

The buyrate probably went from 1.2 million to 600K. I feel bad for all the huge Lesnar fans that bought tickets/flight tickets/hotel for this card.

Hate to say it but I think this marks the end of Brock as we know him.

Type of illness seems like it's gonna hinder if not totally cripple his training camps.

Consider that every one else is hungry and ramping up their own camps...

      This sucks

Yeah, I to get the feeling that we will never get to know if Brock was truly going to be great, or if he was all hype. I really believe he was always still sick and just never admitted it, but that just shows how tough the man truly is. I wish him the best.

As someone that suffers from frequent GI issues, I can attest to how difficult it is to workout on a consistent basis. A lot of days you feel like crap but try and push through the best you can, but it's tough because eventually your body will let you know you need to back off the gas pedal.

My issues are nowhere near as severe as Brock's, so I can't imagine what he's been trying to work through. I just know for me, it makes training with any real intensity very difficult. I wish him all the best.

That really sucks. I hope Brock can overcome this.

Dana must be banging his head against a wall somewhere.

Brock Lesnar spoke on being out of UFC 131 and insists this isn't the end of his career.

He says, "I'll tell you one thing: I'm not retiring. This isn't the end of my fight career. This is something that I believe in my strong faith that there's a solution to every problem. I just have to find the right solution to fix this problem. It didn't allow me to train to my full capabilities. I was forced to make a decision to go back down to the doctor this week to figure out how far this thing was along. What it does is it drains my entire body down. Basically, you've got an infection in your stomach, and all my resources went to fight this problem instead of rebuilding what I tore down in the gym. It's not as serious as last time. It just didn't allow me to train for the way I needed to train for a No. 1 contenders' bout.

I am forced with the decision to either have surgery or deal with this for the rest of my life. A lot of things go through your mind as an athlete, especially myself. This is something that has been wearing on me for about a month now. That's what's so frustrating about this. I've been doing all the right things, so I thought. That's what's very depressing about this, and I feel really, really angry about it. I wanted more than anything to fight Junior Dos Santos and to win that fight and to get a shot at Cain Velasquez. I want nothing more than that. But more importantly, my health and my family are more important. Let's keep things in perspective.

I apologize to Junior Dos Santos and to Spike TV. This is an unfortunate situation for me. I dodged a bullet about two years ago with diverticulitis, at that time now knowing what the problem was, and dodged a bullet by not having the surgery. Diverticulitis is an illness that never goes away. It's something that I've dealt with since my first occurrence and have been battling with it. It's just something that's in your colon for the rest of your life. I love this sport, and I love what I do. This isn't the end of Brock Lesnar.

Re: UFC 131 (Vancouver): Carwin vs. Dos Santos

man i was shocked and saddened when i got this news last night

my mma interest has diversified immensely, so im not just a brock fan in the HW division anymore, but man, i feel bad for him, its obviously a blow to his career, and not to be pessimistic, but probably the end
i know he's got a wife, dont know about kids, but continuing on, if his life could be at risk again, isnt worth it

he should move on and try acting or something

now as far as JDS vs. Carwin

thats an even more interesting fight IMO

2 of the best, strongest stand up strikers in the ufc heavyweight division
it'll be like a boxing match without boxing gloves
              I CANT WAIT!!!

i hope Carwin gets him to ground, cuz i wanna finally see JDS ground skills, im not sure of his BJJ belt level but i know he won state jiu-jitsu and grappling championships in his early mma days, and thats what he came up in (jiu-jitsu/grappling) but he's an amazing boxer/striker

honestly, i think this fight is more even than brock vs jds was

carwin has better chance of beating JDS than brock did, just my opinion

              GOOD LUCK BROCK!

Shane Carwin needs to really train head movement for this fight, because he could easily get it knocked off. The HW division likes to back up during standing exchanges, and if Carwin tries to back away from a JDS flurry rather than moving his head, its going to be a short fight and a long shower for Shane. If Carwin stays inside, uses the clinch, and moves his head, it could be a great fight. I'm sure he improved his cardio after the Lesnar fight.

That sucks. Hopefully, he gets that problem fixed and is 100% again. Brock just strikes me as a guy who wants to be an MMA fighter first and foremost so I know he will do everything in his power to get back.

He gets the shot I assume then. I think he will beat Cain if they fight, that is a different story though.

If his carido is better from the Lesnar fight, then he could win. When two strikers go against each other, it usually comes down to who is in better shape.

I can't tell if Dos Santos gassed against Nelson or if they were really just in that much of a stand up war.

I don't classify that as gassing but he did look fatigued even though he gave Nelson's face hell.

Dos Santos isn't untouchable standing up, Carwin might catch him and or over power him on the mat.

I love any combo of Carwin/Dos Santos/Cain going at it.

I think it's more of Dos Santos getting tired of beating up Roy. Roy's belly and his "defense" in that fight especially prolonged the fight, because Junior was hitting him with those nasty body shots that Roy probably didn't feel and Roy's entire standup defense consisted of him holding his hands up super high. Carwin absolutely will not have the luxury of doing that because Junior is smart and would attack the body, and this time I'm guessing it will hurt.

I do agree though that Junior is very susceptible to getting hit and obviously Carwin has some ridiculous power, but I don't think Carwin is going to land first. Carwin has apparently hooked up with a new nutritionist (check out the Camp Carwin series) where he's made strides in his health and endurance, but I don't think it comes into play in this fight. Carwin probably has more power, but is definitely slower then Junior. My mind thinks JDS in the first via KO.

The weird thing is I could easily see Carwin beating Cain, but then I think Cain will beat JDS.

I am with you. Carwin's chin is also not the best, evidenced by getting rocked by Gonzaga. If Carwin can KO JDS, I think he will beat Cain. Brock is a better wrestler than Cain and couldn't get him down until he gassed. I think Carwin could stop the shot of Cain and KO him, but that will happen if he can get by JDS first.
