Re: UFC 137: GSP vs Diaz

Pretty sure if anyone didn't show up twice for the pressers that they would be yanked, especially if you have a prior history of being irresponsible.

It is called being a professional and living up to the terms of your contract.

I really don't think Dana was sitting around thinking, "Let me see if I can **** Nick Diaz over in his first headline PPV event." He won't be making as much money off of PPV's with Condit as he would with Diaz. His history with Diaz isn't the best, but as long he is making money off the fight he throws that history out the window.

I have a hunch that Diaz will be fighting against Penn.

Not interested in that fight either.......It will be nothing but a boxing match, with one have a clear reach and height advantage over the other.

They should just scrap everything and tell GSP to gain weight, you fighting Anderson Silva, stop BS'ng around.

No it wouldnt. Like i said there was no guarantee he would show for the fight. The guy has anxiety issues. You dont think that would be a big issue going into the biggest fight of his career on the sport's biggest stage.

Do you know what a ****storm it would have been if Diaz doesnt show for the fight? 16k people flying into Vegas and the main event is cancelled or changed? They would have been furious. He did the right thing.

Also Diaz isnt the draw. GSP is. Most casual MMA fans dont watch Strikeforce and have never heard of Diaz. The only reason this fight happened is because MMA nerds (like me) flooded L. Fertitta's twitter saying they wanted to see this fight. If not, we would probably be looking at GSP/Condit or GSP/Silva anyway. The fight will still do 800k to a million.

Being that Diaz use to fight in the UFC and was a big star of theirs before GSP even got into the UFC......You must be talking about recent fans of the UFC.

Nate or Nick were never stars in the UFC. I'd argue that more UFC fans (casual and hardcore) know Nate way more than Nick. Nate has headlined 2 UFC Fight Night and is an Ultimate Fighter winner.

Also the last time Nick fought in the UFC was 2006. The last time he headlined a UFC card was in 2005 (Ultimate Finale fight that was a loss). If I'm a UFC fan (not an MMA fan) who doesnt watch Strikeforce or Elite XC....I either just know him as Nate's Brother or the guy who lost to Sherk, Sanchez and Parysian. If I was just a UFC fan, I would be wondering why he was getting a title shot over Condit. **** Shields had a longer winning streak and was champ but he had to win a fight before getting a shot at GSP.

Now dont get me wrong. I was excited about the fight and interested to see Diaz test GSP. But this guy isnt Brock Lesner. He's not so big of a draw that you should let him fight after he no shows two press conferences. Also Dana was planning to do a Primetime series on Diaz/GSP. Do you know what a disaster that would have been with Diaz hiding from the cameras and refusing to talk?

                But let's be honest.

                1. Yes, Dana was correct in his decision. I've said that from the beginning
                2. I can't recall the last time he's no showed on actual fight night

There would have to be more evidence for me to believe he would be that out of his mind to no show a title fight.

There is a process of doing things, and Nick didn't follow it. He deserves whatever he gets, but from what we know of Nick today, I would put money that Nick would definitely still show up to the fight.
dont know if u can call it a no-show, but he had that title fight against Jay Heiron and skipped out on the pre-fight drug test and the fight got scrapped...

Well, have no fear, Nick Diaz is still on this card.

Nick Diaz vs BJ Penn at UFC 137. Carlos Condit vs GSP in the main event.

Lol if Nick skips out on the "beauty pageants" again since he's gonna have to promote the card somewhat.

The people who saw Diaz fight back then are pretty hardcore fans and would likely be buying the PPV if he was on it or not. He doesn't sell to the casual UFC fan because they have never seem him fight unless they caught one of his fights on a UFC Unleashed.

This is a matchup I would have never thought about before this year. Cray

I would still rather have the original matchups but I'm glad Diaz is still on the card.

I'm excited to see Penn vs Diaz. My only concern is if BJ wins does he become the #1 contender. I'm not interested in seeing GSP fight Penn again. If Nick wins does he get GSP next? I don't know if Dana would do it.

You have to be kidding me. So he gets taken out of the main, then put in the co-main :o
Tbh I think this is a even worse matchup for him though.

I don't even think Diaz deserves to be on the card at all. He had his chance for a HUGE payday... and instead, he wants to be an amateur instead of a professional.... and pisses it away.

Dana should let him sit this card, and perhaps even the next card out... let him sit and think about it... and maybe he won't take it so lightly the next time.
