    Re: GSP vs Diaz

Looks like its official. Diaz cancelled the Lacy boxing match and announced that he has a "once in a lifetime fight coming up".

Despite announcement, @danawhite says there are still "a lot of hurdles" for Diaz to come to UFC and TUF gig is "not even a thought."

              Re: GSP vs Diaz

Whatever the case may be, with everything that's gone down recently, it all points to GSP and Diaz getting in the ring soon.

So whether it's TUF or not, I don't really care, I just want to see the fight happen soon.

White is just playing it cool and calm right now as he always does.

Sonnen's license is only suspended until the end of June.

We arent that far from the time he showed up 6 pounds over against Yoshida.

Also its clear GSP doesnt want to move up and the UFC isnt going to force him. He believes that if he attempts to move up he will never be able to get back down to WW comfortably. I dont think thats true but it is his belief. Diaz is arguably a top 3 WW and there is nothing wrong with booking this fight.
Diaz has fought no one in the UFC in recent history, and the Johnson loss to Koscheck was BS to the extreme. I agree with you about his weigt problems, I'm also ok with whatever GSP decides -

but the thing is the core of my point is he's the biggest threat imo to GSP. At least he just beat Hardy where Diaz is getting a title shot having fought no one in the UFC - Jake Sheilds didn't even get that opportunity. Plus back to my point of Johnson being a great bench mark as far as GSP guaging whether he wants to go against those much bigger dudes.

The december thing - is that no GSP until that fight? That's a really long time to have no GSP!

I just think sooner rather than later for Georges making the decision to just eff it and move up or decide he wants to remain at WW for most of the rest, if not all his career. Anderson is the main if not only reason most people would want Georges to move up, and the window is always shrinking. With that fight in December (GSP Diaz) we're now possibly looking at a 2013 fight with anderson and that's possibly too late. Just sayin.

I don't think Diaz is nearly strong enough to submit Johnson. it would have to be a rear-naked and I just don't see it. Hell maybe Diaz should have to fight him before earning the tittle shot, and if Johnson won, maybe more of you would deem him deserving at that point.

Who do you think wins in a rematch, Kos or Johnson? I say Johnson. Johnson fitch could be interesting as well. The guy is just so damn big and strong. I wouldn't bet against Johnson fighting anyone in WW. I'm not even a johnson fan, so there's no homerism here.

Other good fights, Hardy vs Alves, Johnson vs Alves...

anyway it's happening so obviously I'm not getting my way. I think GSP stands with him and only takes him down a couple of times grindes him against the cage and keeps popping him with jabs. 50-45 decision

                      Re: GSP vs Diaz

I'm sorry, but Diaz is a much better fighter than Anthony Johnson. The only fighter that Johnson has beat and is still in the UFC is Dan Hardy. There are at least 10 WW's that I would favor over Johnson. GSP, Fitch, Shields, Koscheck, Alves, Condit, Diaz, Penn, Kampmann, MacDonald and Daley.

Sure Johnson is big, but is he a great wrestler? Sure he took Dan Hardy down, but he has some of the worst takedown defense in the division. He's never really used his wrestling in a fight before.

Why was Koscheck's win over Johnson "BS to the Extreme"? Kos submitted him. If you are referring to the knee Johnson threw that Kos faked as if he was hit, that had not effect on the fight. Kos' win over Johnson was way more impressive than Johnson's over Hardy.

Also, Diaz most recent win is over Paul Daley who is a UFC caliber fighter who has a KO win over Martin Kampmann. I'll also give a title shot to the guy with 9 straight wins before the guy who is 1 and 1 in his last two fights and whos biggest win is over Dan Hardy.

Also where do u get 2013 from? GSP Diaz will probably be in December 2011. Silva may defend his belt one more time after Okami (Bisping or Sonnen) and that sets up a Spring/Summer superfight.

Kos would submit him again. He has horrible takedown defense and average submission defense.

Might have to make a trip to Montreal if this fight goes down.

I would rather watch GSP/Silva but I'm still very interested in this fight. Diaz is one my favorite fighters but I don't know how good he really is because the competition in Strikeforce is pretty bad.

IMO the chances of Diaz beating GSP are greater than the chances of GSP beating Anderson Silva.

I won't get into the kos thing here..that knee did have an effect though. Diaz has done nothing in the UFC, his win over Semtex isn't title shot worthy.

If GSP fights Silva immediately after he fights Diaz which is highly unlikely. Would you really go directly from Diaz to Silva? GSP needs to test himself against a big body, I think Johnson is a great opportunity for that, he's someone who could probably even be a LHW - and I'll just leave it at that.

I kept brining up that it's best for GSP which just keeps getting ignored, what I'm saying has much less to do with deserving of a title shot, since both guys in reality don't deserve it. What's Fitch have to say about htis? For GSP potentially moving up or having a catch weight fight at 180, Diaz isn't the best option if it's going to be the fight before.

So that's where I'm getting 2013. It would be winter 2012 earliest, I just think more likely it would be '13 ... and by then maybe it won't happen at all.
