Re: UFC 137: GSP vs Diaz

I know but I'm wondering about Diaz TDD.

I don't think he's showed anything in the past to convince me he's gonna be any different from GSP's recent opponents.

But I'm praying Diaz can use his range and jabs to keep GSP away enough. Hopefully GSP's chin can actually get tested even though Diaz may not have the most power, he puts together nice combinations and has an iron chin.

Re: UFC 137: GSP vs Diaz

Even if GSP takes him down, Diaz is BJJ black belt with 8 submission victories. I doubt GSP is going to risk playing around inside of his guard with Diaz's long legs and arms.

All GSP is going to do is jab, take down, pass to side control and stand back up. That is what he is going to do over and over again.

GSP isn't going to play with fire by staying inside of Diaz's guard for long periods of time. GSP is going to take him down for points and that is about it.

Re: UFC 137: GSP vs Diaz

I mean when you thnk about it, GSP has only fought 2 high level BJJ guys in his entire career and that was BJ Penn and Matt Serra. Both people GSP had a reach and height advantage over.

With Diaz, he doesn't have that height and reach advantage,. Diaz has long legs and arms. He can catch GSP in submissions from a longer range much easier then Matt and BJ could.

Re: UFC 137: GSP vs Diaz

GSP has a pretty stout top/side/mat game. IDK if Diaz really wants to play with that strategy too much in his guard. I really don't think GSP is gonna not shoot because of Diaz' BJJ, GSP is just so dang strong.

But hopefully Diaz BJJ will be enough to at least keep GSP honest and not go to the ground every damn minute.

Re: UFC 137: GSP vs Diaz

Yeah I think it will keep him honest, since Diaz attacks off his back a lot. And we all know GSP don't have KO power and Diaz has a pretty solid chin.

So all in all should be a great fight. I kind of think of it as the Anderson Silva & Chael Sonnen fight.

You had a good wrestler who didn't have a good stand up vs a guy who has great stand up but also good BJJ as well. Sure a good wrestler can take anybody down, but it only takes one slip up by a wrestler to get submitted by a guy with long legs and arms.

So I hope GSP watched that tape. Get too cocky inside of somebody's guard that has good BJJ and you will get burned.

Are you saying GSP doesn't have any stand up? He has great standup.

It's funny with GSP, some people say his standup is underrated but then sometimes I think people tend to overstate his standup.

I personally think he has a great jab, with decent combos but I've noticed he definitely shys away from it if at all threatened on the feet. He'll immedietely abandon the stand up and go for the shoot.

Other than that I really don't think he is a threat on the feet but he has the ability to avoid damage and has good in and outs. I think his standup just works perfect with his wrestling and it works perfectly to set up his takedowns.

It does, which is why it helps it a ton. His wrestling opens up his stand up and vice-versa. He has a great jab. He also has good kicks.

Sam Stout drops out of the Siver fight. Stout is still distraught after his brother and law and trainer, Shawn Tompkins died a few weeks ago.

So replacing Stout is.........."Cowboy" Donald Cerrone.

                        OMG

Wooooooooooow. This card is honestly too good to be true

Things are about to clear up in the LW division.

So long as we can get the Guida/Bendo fight.

What an outstanding card this is turning into.

Penn/Condit is going to be awesome.

I didn't know or follow Condit much till he obliterated Hardy. Really like the way he goes after people.
