Which game for a "newbie" to the series...

    Hey everyone...

Just recently started getting into UFC...and I noticed there are 2 video games out there:

    MMA and UFC.

Which one is the best game to get (for someone that doesn't know much about the sport).. Graphically? Gameplay? Modes? Are there trny modes? CPU vs CPU (fantasy games?), etc?

    Thanks!

    I'd go w/ UFC 09

You can probably get both UFC 09 and EA MMA for $25-$30 combined now so get both. Try MMA without the patch first. Stay away from UFC 10 though.

EA's MMA is a solid game for sure the control scheme is smoother
        Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

I'd go with either EA MMA or UFC 09. UFC 09 was arcadish and bomb heavy, but UFC 10 is even moreso. Rounds in it consist of nothing but one bomb after another until somebody gets knocked out, and I think submissions are even more annoying in UFC 10, because in 09, at least you could pull off a sub by mashing buttons. In the latest iteration, you HAVE to "shine" (rotate the right stick until your controller breaks or something), and it appears to be nigh impossible to pull off subs against the CPU on higher difficulties. I enjoy UFC 10's wacky, cartoonish pace for its fun factor, but it's not for everybody.

Between UFC 09 and EA Sports MMA, I'd say EA MMA is the vastly superior game in terms of gameplay.

              Hi,,,
I think that the UFC is better than the MMA on the ground that it has more players, better options and quality graphics...
              What do you people think???

okay um ..Get ea mma its better overall
as for ufc 09 and 10...i say get 10 because of the roster and graphics
but online its extremely annoying especially in ranked matches people spam takedowns and clinchs , subs

UFC 2010 would be at the top of the bunch for me. It beats 09 in enough areas to make it worth playing - and the create a fighter is far better and more interesting.

EA MMA is fun for a while - and has some advantages over 2010, but I've found the annoyances enough to make it not worth playing. The striking is god aweful, and the ground game is extremely limited. It's definitely a base for what they wanted it to become, but it'll never become anything more than that. It also seems to be overhyped simply because it was an alternative to the THQ game. Had 2010 come along after EA MMA, people would be hyping it in the same way; just as how people do whenever an alternative pops up.

2010 would be the best buy out of the 3.

Yup. EA MMA is severely limited in what you can to both on the ground, and standing. And the clinch game is trash. Oh and don't even get me started on the presentation. It was a good base for a potentially good game but a sequel seems to be in doubt. It is still probably the most realistic MMA game though, just not as fun as 09 for me.

You had me until that last sentence.

in 09 every fighter is almost exactly the same. You have 3 bases and that's it - every fighter with the same base is exactly the same fighter with a different skin. You can also destroy the AI with a fighter rated all 0's.

It's a fun game online, but offline it's just a mess.

A lot of people had the same moves but they didn't really fight the same. For example Rampage and Rashad Evans were both Boxer/Wrestlers but they fought nothing alike when controlled by the AI. Fighters fought to their strengths much more.

In 10 everybody did fight the same though. Everybody ALWAYS came forward and threw bombs.

I will agree that the AI was a little too easy in 09.

It's not about the AI for me - it's about gameplay; every wrestler had the exact same set of moves, and no other fighter (aside from a special fighter here and there) could do any of those moves; so no boxer could head kick (except in a special allowance or two).

When it came down to it - the fighters were all just different skins; you just picked the standup and ground game you preferred. In 2010 they all have a talent list that's made for them, and you can create your own fighter with all the moves you want. It's just far better and far more fun.
