Neither guy looked great at all.
    Overeem bad cardio
Not great at avoiding punches, he took a lot of combos right to the face

    Not good

    He looked stiff as hell

Cain would run through both of them from what I saw.

Also give me Barnett in this tournament.
Ive been saying it for over a year. Overeem "looks" like he should be the #1 HW in the world but he hasnt fought anyone to justify his hype.

To be honest any level headed person wouldn't have told you anything like "Overeem is right there with Cain and JDS"

If anything I think a fair consensus coming into tonight was that Overeem is a dangerous "unknown" [in terms of who he is recently as opposed to his younger Pride days] who is on the outside looking in... who still had to showcase his skill against someone of merit.

What does this fight say about Werdum though? I don't know. To me it showed a lot of cowardice on his part, but at the same time we can't come to too many conclusions about him after tonight. His standup seemed pretty good when he decided to actually stand up.

When is Gus Johnson leaving again?

The prelims were better than the main card.

Overeem could have just not cared if he got punched, but he did look like he felt them. His next fight should be a good test.

What's the over/under on the semis being finished before the end of the year?

Well, it's the morning after I guess. My brother and I went to the fight, and were really entertained for the first eight matches. The preliminary card fights were good save for the eye-poke match, but it was really entertaining. Barnett really worked the crowd; that was one of the fights of the night. Lil' Overeem's submission to punches was comedy at its finest. The only match that sucked was the last fight, and nobody was impressed to see Overeem try to dance like Ali and sleep like a hibernating bear.

Unfortunately, that could be one of the last big cards in DFW for a while, because there were a lot of empty seats for this event. The floor was packed, but the first and second levels had some sections without any fans in them. I want to see UFC come back to the area...

After having finally watched this card, the main event was terrible as everyone has already stated. Overeem looked stiff and seemed to be landing more slaps to the head then actual punches. Werdum didnt look so bad when he was striking and not falling to the ground trying to coax Overeem into diving into his guard. The rest of the card was pretty good for the most part but the main event was just pure garbage.

I agree. The card was excellent other than that fight. I love Strikeforce's presentation. Fight after fight after fight. No lull in the action. Gus Johnson sucks, and Mauro Ranallo is annoying, but UFC has a little to learn from the way SF presents their shows.

Yep, I hate the breaks between fights in the UFC. When on Versus and Spike, I usually record it so I can skip all the 10-15 mins between fights.

I would gladly take Gus & Frank/Bas over Mauro who is absolutely ridiculous and wants to be 'cool' 90% of the time.

Cant compare SF to UFC when it comes to presentation because they are totally different. On PPV, the UFC has to fill its 3 hr slot. So that means they have to spread out fights to fill the time. On Spike/Versus, the UFC has to fill the 2 1/2 slot and has commercials to air.

Strikeforce doesnt have that problem because it isnt on commercial or PPV TV. If the event ends an hr early, Showtime just puts on an episode of Dexter or Nascar this Week to fill the time.

UFC has NO problems "filling the slot". On a free UFC event, you get about 50 minutes of actual fighting and an hour forty of commercials and montages. Better names, yes. Better fighters, yes. Better commentary, absolutely. More entertaining from top to bottom? I would argue that point.

Oh. Bas Rutten is the best guy ever to listen to as far as MMA goes. That is another animal altogether. It's like the difference between Coach Ditka and a team of 18 Mini-Ditkas. You have to change your answer.

The UFC has to show 40 minutes of commercials in order for Spike and it to make money off of those cards. The montages are in every MMA promotion including Strikeforce and take up 10 minutes tops so thats not an issue. The only thing that the UFC could trim down is the interviews they have with the headliners of an upcoming PPV card but thats really over 10 min. You cant compare a broadcast on a subscription channel to one on a regular cable network. They need advertising to pay the bills.
