Rampage Jackson's last UFC fight v Shogun Rua 2012

The idea of these farewell fights are sort of odd.

I say you just cut Rampage and be done with it.

Does anyone give him any chance at all to beat Rua? Not to mention if Rampage knows this is his last fight, who's to say he'll even be dedicated to put on a good show/make weight/train hard?

You're sort of setting yourself up for failure by already stipulating "this is your last fight with us"...

I don't see the point quite frankly. Just cut him.

Just match him up against Tito, and you can get rid of 2 guys contracts with one fight.

The point is, he is still under contract for one more fight. They have to pay him regardless since it is in his contract, so might as well let him fight if he is going to be paid anyway. After that, Rampage already stated he going back to doing stuff in Japan, since Japan is where he was happiest the most in his life.

Rumor has it, Rampage will be fighting for One FC over there. Which is basically consists of Dream and Shooto organizations

Cant wait for him to be gone, listening to him complain about being matched up with wrestlers and instead of actually improving his takedown defense he just lets them smother him and then complain that he was matched up with them in the first place gets old. I guess in a perfect world he'd fight guys who do nothing but stand up and bang but thats not what the UFC does and he of all people should know that by now.

I have a lot of love and respect for Rampage, but the last years of his career have been filled with a lot of BS on his part. Not to mention we haven't seen vintage Rampage for several years now.

I sort of bunch him into the BJ Penn camp.

I love both guys, but both have done a lot of things later in their careers that make me SMH

I really don't see the point in Rua even fighting this cat. Might as well put Rua against Bader.

I've been fairly unimpressed with Rampage in the UFC. His only "good win" (imo) is against Hendo. The rest of his W's Chuck, Wandy, Jardine & Hamill came against guys who were simply past their primes and he should have beaten anyway. His other "win" against Machida was pretty controversial and an overall boring fight. At least he got the win though, I guess.

If I had to sum up his time in the UFC with one phrase it would be "he has been all bark and no bite". I won't go as far as to say good riddance. However, at least I don't have to hear that Rampage is in the best shape of his career on the countdown shows anymore.

Agreed for the most part, but the Chuck win was a good win. Chuck was on a 7 fight win streak.

Also it's sort of unfair to look at a resume and poke holes in it like that.. I think I could do that with most MMA fighters.

But for the most part I do agree.

Yeah, I guess you could do that with most fighters. For the record, I do think that he's a Hall of Famer. But that's mostly due to his Pride days. His career in the UFC has been very lackluster, in my opinion. The main thing that I'm disappointed about is that we didn't get a Rampage vs. Forrest 2. Other than that I'm fine with him walking away. Although, we've been through this song and dance before so I wouldn't be surprised if he's back within two years.

Its Rampage's fault though. He has the ability to be a top fighter like he was in Pride, but he doesn't want to work for that. He wants to stand there and punch, nothing else. He has given up all the other things that he could do.

I dont hate Ramage and find that he can be entertaining if nothing else but the comparison to BJ Penn is spot on in multiple ways, biggest being that both fighters seem capable of being so much better then they are in the cage today and whether thats age or not doesnt change the fact that neither one has really provided much of anything worth talking about in years. Reading quotes from Rampage that Joe Silva should be shot in the face for matching him up with wrestlers is just ridiculous to me. The one and only fight I am halfway interested in seeing would be Fedor vs Rampage in Japan just to see what would happen as Fedor wouldnt look for the takedown so we would see a real slugfest but outside of that there is nothing left for him to do that doesnt include the UFC imo.

Kind of hard to change when you been doing one thing your whole career. You go with what brought you to the dance. No different then Matt Hughes and his wrestling........Chuck and his stand and bang......Tito and his ground & pound. .....Randy Couture and his dirty boxing.......Crocop and his head kicks..... Vitor Belfort and his head kicks.

The days of one dimensional fighters is coming to an end. Pretty soon Wandy will be gone too when his contract expires. Had many great memories watching all those ex pride guys fight in Pride. But by the time they made it the UFC, damn near all of them were already past their prime. The only one who wasn't was Shogun.

I expect another uninspiring performance from Rampage.

                          Shogun via TKO
