They could but I dont expect them too. That would be a pr disaster if they shut them down in the next few months.Comment

Also if EA knows how to do one thing its marketing. The first EA/UFC game will be all over the place with ads. This could help further legitimize the UFC.Comment

Originally posted by BlazedGonzI am sorry but this is not true, Dana talked out his ***, and sold to THQ before even talking with EA. I asked some of the EA developers when I competed in League-A-Polooza. Why would EA turn down the potential profit that they could have had from all the hardcore EA fanboys and the hardcore UFC fans?
Not jumping on your balls or anything, I just think Dana is a bald testicle with a huge tumor growing out the bottom that sprouted limbs.
On another note, I cannot ****ing wait for the next EA installment and I cannot ****ing wait to inverted knee bar somebody in another live broadcast. I hope they bring back the TSC, LBs and SPECTATOR MODE.
I just want to scream in the middle of the street. UFC 09 was great, but UFC 2010 and UFC 3 are broken and disappointments. I guess all I really can say is...

Completely agree about it being sketchy but he really had no choice. THQ is a sinking ship and who knows if there wouldve been a Undisputed 4 with the way that business is doing. EA is not only the #1 sports gaming company in the world but also has a mma game engine in place. A deal with another company wouldve required that company to start from square 1.
Also if EA knows how to do one thing its marketing. The first EA/UFC game will be all over the place with ads. This could help further legitimize the UFC.Comment

Re: EA Has Acquired the UFC License, Will Develop New UFC Game
THQ sold to EA. I am sure the UFC approved the sale of the license, but doubt they were the initiator. THQ likely had this planned to squeeze one more game out, then unless sales were astronomical, sell of the license after the release. THQ had to put the license up for sale, as they owned it. I think the sketchiest party involved right now is THQ themselves. They need money, and that was a way to maximize the value of the license.Comment

THQ had a contract, they were under no obligation to sell. The problem is in the Monopoly game of life, THQ just landed on Boardwalk with a Hotel on it.Comment

I really don't understand how a lot of you can be so optimistic? I actually enjoyed UFC 3 (I played it mostly offline). Have you guys any knowledge of EA Sports track record? EA MMA wasn't that good IMO, they ruined Madden until finally getting it right this year, NCAA Football is a sinking ship, Fight Night is in limbo, and do I even need to mention NBA Live. I know this will help the UFC as far as marketing, but IMO I think THQ was on the right track. I know THQ is a sinking ship and whatnot, but I wouldn't be surprised if the next UFC game is a huge crapfest. I hope the Fight Night "Freeze Parry" doesn't make it's way into this game lolLast edited by Dirk504; 06-05-2012, 05:48 PM.Comment

Re: EA Has Acquired the UFC License, Will Develop New UFC Game
Haven't kept up with this thread, but search doesn't seem to indicate this was mentioned.
THQ lays off San Diego staff after giving up UFC license
The struggling company had exclusively released games based on the mixed martial arts brand since 2009, but EA has secured a multi-year, multi-product partnership with UFC. It's the latest in a number of publishing rights THQ has given up recently, including deals with Marvel (Avengers), Adidas, and DreamWorks.
"THQ confirms that today's announcement regarding the UFC license transition will affect the company's San Diego studio," said the company's communications VP Angela Emery in a statement provided to Gamasutra. "THQ is working closely with those relevant staff to either find possible employment within the company, or potentially with EA."
The UFC franchise was a critical one for THQ, and the most recent release provided a bright spot in an otherwise dark quarter for the company after generating higher-than-expected sales. As part of this transition, EA has made an unspecified cash payment to THQ to end its exclusive partnership with UFC.
The San Diego team is best known for developing multiplatform wrestling game WWE All Stars. THQ purchased the studio from Midway when that publisher went bankrupt in 2009, paying $200,000 plus liabilities to take over the development house and its some 100 employees. The group was previously responsible for Midway's TNA Impact games.Comment
