EA has big plans for its UFC game

Somewhat interesting article, hopefully they can deliver. Personally I'd rather se a new fight night so I was kinda worried when they started talking about the fight night devs.

I think a dynamic & stable online experience will play a big factor in the EA Sports UFC title by the approach Andrew Wilson wants to push.

I hope this EA UFC game features a good tutorial like Undisputed. I never really got the hang of EA MMA and could of really benefited from that. I'm also excited to see what changes will be made to the career mode. Hopefully it's better than Undisputed's and deeper than Fight Night.

EA is in da house and I have no choice but to keep an eye on this "big plan" of theirs. Hopefully EA makes a UFC/MMA game better than what THQ did. And they should listen carefully to what the supportive fans and gamers want in the game, so they don't mess another game up (again).

Fighters. That is what I would like. Lots of fighters The didn't put half of the fighters in the game that are in the UFC

I liked the way EA's MMA game felt, I liked those controls. Put the UFC brand and fighers on top of that existing game and I'd pay $30 for that alone.

As though your average person knows all 400 plus UFC fighters. They already have plenty of fighters, damn near 100 of them in the game already. So fighters isn't the problem. Unstable online services was THQ's problem.

If it is one thing EA Sports is very good at, it is online modes and stability of them.

I liked both UFC 3 and EA Sports MMA, so I'm excited to see what EA can do.

The fighter attributes in EA's game were very detailed and worked well, and the striking was crisp. Also, every strike wasn't a 'hit or a miss', accuracy stats came into it as well. The grappling was decent but no better than UFC 3 which did a pretty good job of it.

So Finally Randy Couture will be in a UFC game, as he sign a likeness agreement with EA Sports.
                  NFL: Oakland Raiders
                  MLB: Oakland A's
                  NHL: San Jose Sharks

Re: EA has big plans for its UFC game

"We had Fight Night Champion, which is one of the highest-rated fighting games that's ever been made, and that team has continued to deliver what I feel is still the best striking in any fighting game in our industry."

This confirms that the article is pure fluff. Matty, please don't see my post as an insult to you, but that comment in the linked article can not be any further than the truth.

The striking in Fight Night is very one dimensional with very flawed logic in how a punch lands and doesn't land. To sum it up, in order to control the out-put of punches a fighter has, the Fight Night team created a missed punch effect where a punch will randomly miss, not because of physics or location but because they are trying to decrease how many punches land. So they aren't relying on incorporating proper stamina or physics but rather programming the game to miss randomly so that punch connection percentages are lower.

The next issue with striking is how ineffective a counter punch, and any punch for that matter, can be. In Fight Night Champion, if you take two user controlled fighters and leave one just standing there, you can blast him with multiple punches to the head, several times before he goes to the mat or even physically displays what an open punch would do to an unguarded fighter.

I was hoping that there would be a new Fight Night and a UFC game, but it really concerns me that they will be using some of the Fight Night team, a team that never locked down the sport of boxing, but rather pursued "big" moments and outrageous gameplay to cater to a more arcade representation of the sport.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

My only concern is presentation when it comes to EA. They are notorious for cutting corners. THQ's event mode is one of my most favorite modes in a sports game ever. It feels exactly like a UFC broadcast.

EA MMA's presentation was clunky from the way too short fighter walk through and introductions to the announcements of decisions (EA MMA and Fight Night never announce the scores just the winner. "The Winner by split decision is Nick Diaz).

This is true, although as long as the gameplay is realistic I can look past things like this.

Re: EA has big plans for its UFC game

EA MMA was very solid. I personally felt it had the best footwork of any fighting game period since the victorious boxers. Counters were done perfectly. What ruined it was the parry and blocking system, coupled with the takedown system. People got into this almost impenetrable shell by alternating parties left and right. So while they are showing jazz hands, with the alternating parries, you figure you should be able to clinch or take them down, except you can't, if your TDD was rated over 85, the window was so big, you only got taken down if you absolutely didn't care, or missed a spinning strike. What would have been better was to steal from fight night champion with parries being a perfect block, and your block had to be high or low. Also have a slight lockout after a missed perfect block attempt to keep spam to a minimum. This would make feints very useful, as you could feint a jab, get an over anxious counter fighter to attempt to time the block, and then land.

With the takedown system, the timed auto takedown on power punches from UFC undisputed must be implemented. This will keep fighters who just want to stand and bang, honest with their power strikes, as they would not be able to spam hook after hook after hook. EA MMA did a lot of things right, but could improve on much more. Implementation of these ideas could take a good start to a fighting engine, and start it to being the end all be all of fighting games after a few games to improve upon what they have.
