    Re: GSP v. Diaz

#1 and #2 were direct results of trash talking.

Note that I said the "overriding factor" was the trash talking, meaning there are other factors involved. Dana's opinion on who won a close fight shouldn't really play a big role in this. I could understand if it was questioned by a majority of analysts and fans, but that's not the case, Condit won that fight.

Plain and simple, if Diaz did not trash talk, GSP doesn't disdain Diaz and he takes the Hendricks or Anderson fight. Plus, nobody said anyone got robbed, except for maybe Hendricks.

One point I'd disagree with you strongly about is that I'd say its 50/50 with the analysts and fans regarding who won the Condit fight. I remember at the time many well known analysts were saying they thought Diaz won.

Man, I don't remember it being that controversial. Mostly because I am such a Diaz fan. I remember initially people were sort of split because of Condit's unique gameplan, which was to pretty much avoid any lengthy exchanges.. but then I remember after the dust settled people re-watched and noticed that Condit got the better of those limited exchanges. He avoided any real damage while Diaz ate some powerful shots.

Who else was so steadfast in Diaz' corner?

I remember Chiappetta, Okamoto (ESPN) and maybe Helwani had Diaz winning. I remember being confused the night of the fight because I thought Condit clearly won and I kept seeing all these tweets from MMA guys who had Diaz winning. Most of the fighters who saw the fight had Diaz winning. Remember the UFC RARELY gives immediate rematches and the plan was to give Diaz an immediate rematch before he failed the drug test.

That's a great point actually, about the immediate rematch.

I want to hear a comment from Nick on all of this. Also, if this means that Hendricks also grows some sort of serious bitterness for GSP, I'm for it.

From a business perspective, this fight makes complete sense. I'm looking forward to it, but won't get excited until I see Nick actually show up for the pre-fight press conferences.

Actually after last night, my interest in a GSP vs Diaz fight went from slim to none. Henderson vs Nate would look exactly the same, except GSP wouldn't allow Nick to get back up.

                    Re: GSP v. Diaz

I don't think that any fighter that's coming off of a suspension or took time off to make a movie or whatever deserves to come back and get an immediate title shot. Especially, if that division already has a more than deserving contender.

With that said, I understand this from a business perspective and it's a grudge match so as they say "it is what it is". Even though I think that Diaz should get another W first, I still can't wait to watch these two go at it.

Pretty much how I feel, unfortunately. Instead of exposing Nick against someone like Koscheck or Fitch it's good business to cash in on a microwaved GSP/Nick while they still can. Here's to hoping Nick learned something from his brother's loss, but I really doubt it.
