    JJ vs Claudia 1

Trying to be objective I'm curious who people here thought won the first fight? I had it 29-28 Claudia

    Re: JJ vs Claudia 1

I wrote about this fight quite a bit on MMAFighting.

I had it, and still do after multiple re-viewings, 29-28 JJ.

Takedowns don't win fights anymore. Laying against someone isn't gonna win you a fight anymore like it used to (see Hendricks/Lawler 2 and Sarah Moras vs whoever that huge chick was who just laid and prayed for the entire fight. I love that this has changed over the last couple years, I love it so much. I hated the whole "oh this guy just got dominated but the takedown with one second left stole the round" crap. That's not fighting, IMO.

When someone watches a Ben Askren fight and calls it boring, people in reaponse say "this is mma, not kickboxing." I agree with that, but that goes both ways. This is mma, not wrestling.

This is mma, it's a fight. A real fight, and in my very honest and sincere opinion JJ was the more effective fighter that fight. If that fight had been on then street and after 15 minutes the two girls were pulled apart I feel most people would say that JJ won the fight. Claudia had takedowns, and did maintain control on the ground during more than one exchange, but overall JJ did much more of everything else.

I just want to throw in there that I am not anti-grappling. DM's dismantling of Gunnar a little while back was one of the most impressive things I've seen in the octagon in quite a while. There is a difference between what Hendricks did to Condit/what DC has done to a lot of guys, and what Claudia did against JJ. Her wrestling didn't hurt JJ, it didn't ever make me say "oh JJ is in trouble here."

Based on what I understand the scoring criteria to be (an understanding I admit may not be accurate) I feel JJ just did more, overall.

That being said it was definitely extremely close and if Claudia had won I couldn't have been too upset about it. From what I remember it seemed like most people had the fight for Claudia as well. I always wondered if the punch after the bell had any influence on the decision as well. Not that it should have, but I just can't help but wonder if that was held against her

    Edit

I'm really excites for the rematch. I think Claudia is JJs biggest threat. I do think that JJ has improved her takedown defense tremendously since this fight but she hasn't fought chicks as strong as Claudia either

I thought Joanna won the fight, but literally by a hair.

Part 2 is going to be pretty fun. Joanna has being being such a b*tch to Claudia, and I love every second of it.

Claudia was robbed big time. I really don't see how joanna won that fight.

Claudia won rd 2, rd 3 easy. The first round she was even winning but probably lost because of the knockdown.

I just watched the fight again to refresh my memory

To me it's a clear 1st for JJ, a clear third for Claudia. Scoring the second round is the question. Claudia had takedowns but did nothing with them, and overall was out struck quite a bit that round.

I guess it it just depends on how you value a takedown by itself with no offense around it
