One illegal elbow and that knee was wild but that sums up Stephens in a nutshell.

I think he will get the winner/loser of Edgar-Ortega. It depends on how long Holloway will be out.

Featherweight is looking good atm, they have alot of new blood in the division.
They need to get Magomedsharipov a fight *** ****!!!

Some blatant illegal elbows to back of the head too. It's up to the ref to catch them so the finish is concrete now. I haven't heard of an appeal actually working. I may be wrong tho.

I don't think it was blatant as Emmett was fighting on a single, so he was moving. Could be wrong though. Doubt an appeal would work, they never do even in worse cases than this.

It was blatant, which means clearly.

Regardless of Emmett's motion those elbows landed to the back of the head.

It doesn't really matter tho since so many rabbit punches go unnoticed like Oezedmir often does.

In this case it may work. He was hurt but recovering until the elbows and knee landed. Then it was over. He should get a no contest.

It doesn't usually happen, but if they are fair, this gets overturned.

I doubt it will, they very rarely do. There have been many cases before but once the fight finishes the cases where its overturned is for failed drugs test.

If Dan Miragliotta had intervened then they would of deemed it a No Contest and would had probably rescheduled it. I wouldnt have wanted that since Emmett was done, he was clearly out and Stephens was the clear winner.

Stephens will move on to fight a number 1 contender, and Emmett will probably have a year out. It sucks but its the brutal reality of this sport we love.

On second viewing there was a clear illegal knee as well.

It didn't land cleanly on the way up, but on the way down it landed cleanly on the back of the head.. perhaps a double foul?

Either way it's highly unlikely it gets overturned, simply due to the fact it rarely- if ever- happens.

I mean the rules are so inconsistent.

I remember Mazzagati immediately standing up Lesnar off Mir due to one strike to the back of the head- and gave a one point deduction. Imagine if that were applied to eyepokes and groin shots lol.

These strikes to the back of the head, behind the ear shouldn't be overlooked.. I see alot of fighters aiming for that shot nowadays. Because it's such a sensitive area, even a graze could send you unconscious. They are illegal but very rarely get called up.

Miragliotta should of stopped the fight when Stephens threw the knee but I think due to the **** fest that Poirier - Alvarez and Weidman-Mousasi caused, referees are scared to put themselves out there which is ridiculous since it's their job to protect the fighters.

Marc Goddard is probably the most strict referee but he very rarely takes points and calls a stop to the fight. But then you get some of the local referees that will stand fighters up for 5 seconds of stalling lmao.

Apparently Emmitt got hurt very, very bad. These guys need to get paid more.

                      damn...
I made a few support pics on twitter for Project Spearhead, but I must admit my patience with fighters not banning together to make positive changes is wearing thin. like Luke Thomas said "The cavalry is not coming, you are the cavalry".
