Yair is still haunted by visions of Frankie Edgar. Catch you in Bellator, sir.

It's crazy how fighters are essentially getting fired on their days off, Craig style. Leslie Smith's made a bit more sense because Dana was probably tired of hearing about the union, but neither of these two had recently lost a fight. Maybe UFC is trying to send a message to other fighters and reign them back in a bit. Once upon a time fighters always did what UFC wanted and were scared of going against management. That ship has probably sailed for the most part, but that could still work on fighters without much UFC tenure.

I may be naive but I dont think the Smith firing had anything to do with the union. Zuffa (the Fertittas in particular) hated unions but WME doesnt. They deal with Unions and represent Union talent all the time.

I think it had to do with leverage. Only the hardest of the hardcore know who Leslie Smith is. When her opponent missed weight, she tried to leverage that into a new contract (with a pay raise) before she would agree to fight. Thats her right. The UFC also has the right to pay her out and terminate her contract. They arguably couldve done it without paying her out.

With that said, Dana is trying to reign the mid level guys back in a bit.

So did the UFC not really release him when Dana said he was released? He had a contract offer that got rescinded in the last week or so from another org.

Sounds like he should join the labor lawsuit against the UFC.

He'll never. These fighters are so damn stubborn. Pull yerself up by the bootstrap mentality. Karolina letting go of a chance to sue Conor cuz "she's seen worse things in Poland". Good for you girl. I mean you turned down a possible out-of-court settlement of hundreds of thousands of dollars, but you gained a few fans and a pat on the back from ol' Dana. I'm sure they'll have your back when you start losing...

They officially released him. He was taking offers from other organizations which wouldve left him open for a breach of contract lawsuit and left those organizations open for a tortious interference with a contact lawsuit if he hadnt been notified of his release.

Borg and Chiesa have SLAM DUNK potential lawsuits against Conor because they suffered injuries and missed fights because of Conor's actions. Their opponents have claims too.

Karolina's is tougher because she fought the next night and won so its harder for her to claim damages.

Same with Rose. Funny enough Conor lost a fan in me over the Rose stuff and not the boys getting injured, but I guess that makes me a chauvinist

Well it depends on what really happened. What made me think he wasn't really released is that Combate America (or what the org's name is) made an offer and then publicly revoked the offer. There aren't many reasons to do that, unless the UFC let them know he was still under contract.

Dana, who runs the company, says you are released. Yes you have to wait for the paperwork for it to be official, but it brings up some issues. Dana is pissed at him and makes him pay by releasing him, but not sending the paperwork. That keeps him from finding employment and making money. Dana is also not offering him any new fights to make money. Dana then uses the released/not released to lower his contract pay (don't know if this happened or not) or other terms.

There are plenty of issues that would be interesting to know the full details of what happened.

I'm hoping California recognises Leslie Smith as a employee and we can finally open this can of worms.
