    DAZN

What are your thoughts on this service? I signed up for the Bellator card this weekend and I've just been browsing around for a little bit. I definitely see potential here. Obviously, it isn't content-rich yet, but I'm sure more promotions will be jumping on in the near future. I'll give it a solid month of the trial before deciding whether it's worth my $10 per month, but first impressions aren't bad. I think a combo of this and ESPN+ could be all I need next year.

This is more boxing related, but I really like the Ak and Barak interviews that I watched too. I'd like something similar with some MMA guys.

If you dont have cable, its worth it. If you have cable, its not. Most basic cable packages have Paramount network on its basic tier so all of the Bellator cards are already on them. From a boxing perspective, the Matchroom cards are decent but really Joshua is the only superstar and he will be on PPV soon.

As for more promotions jumping on, it wont be any of the major ones unless its Golden Boy. Haymon just signed a new deal with Fox and Showtime. Top Ranke is ESPN. The UFC is ESPN. Some of the minor MMA promotions may move on from Fight Pass and AXS to go on DAZN but I dont know if thats worth 10 bucks a month.

I subscribe to Direct TV and don't plan on dropping that. By all I need, I meant more in terms of combat add-ons. However, it's my understanding that Bellator will be having some cards run exclusively on DAZN (7 events per year), this weekends being one of them. That card won't be on Paramount at all.

I dropped Fight Pass a while ago with the ESPN+ announcement. I still need to see how all that works out in terms of what Fight Pass content we'll be able to view through the ESPN membership. I'm not sure I got the full understanding of that.

$15 per month is all I'm really willing to spend for MMA, so I'll figure that out by next year. The mix of MMA and Boxing on DAZN is appealing, even though I don't expect a ton of huge events on there. I guess I'll have to give it some run and decide before the trial ends.

****, you are right about the Bellator cards (the Hawaii card is DAZN only too). DAZN still isnt worth it to me. It was way to easy to easy for me to find a stream for the Joshua fight and I dont know if its worth it for the rest of the fights they currently have. If you have the disposable income though it may be worth it.

ESPN plus is perfect because not only will I get the prelims, UFC cards and some access to Fight Pass...I also get the Top Rank fights, NHL games, MLB games, College Football and basketball for 5 bucks less. More bang for you buck.

DAZN has little value in the US. It has a ton of content in other countries, but because of the existing contracts in the US, they can't offer much.

You used to be able to stream from another country using a VPN, which even got you NFL games, but they stopped that.

So I'm guessing their banning the VPN IPs too now? In which case the only solution would be to keep changing VPNs if someone feels DAZN is that crucial. I wouldn't go so far with it. It's pretty decent from what I got to know through my friends but maybe it's not worth all the fuss

I didn't use it, but I did look into it once I heard the announcement. They basically banned all VPNs ip and unless you actually have a PC sitting in another country, you can't stream.

It was a lot cheaper for people in the US and even had content that wasn't available in the US. Now though, they need to block that since they have contracts in the US.

DAZN is really going on all in with this Canelo thing. $365 million minimum for his next 11 fights is pretty wild, especially with them being such a new product. I don't know who's funding this thing, but their pockets are clearly very deep. It'll be interesting to see how it works out in the long run, but anything that starts getting the sport away from the PPV model is fine by me.

I really enjoyed watching the big Bellator show on the app. It worked well on Firestick, no issues whatsoever. I'll probably pick and choose when I want to subscribe to this service until it gets fleshed out more with content, but I liked my experience with it so far.

                    (Canadian subscriber here)

I'm on a one-month free subscription right now and so far it's not bad.
I'm not a huge football or soccer fan, but I enjoy MMA, love boxing and love baseball.
The MLB Network is friggin awesome. But I already have it from my satellite subscriber. If not for that, then this service would be a must.
There are some really nice boxing shows put on and I loved the fact I didn't have to pay PPV funds to watch Joshua's last fight.
Just as it excites me knowing I'll get the meat of Alvarez's prime years for basically $12/month.

But I'm not sold on keeping it just yet as the content isn't deep enough for my tastes.
However, if you're an NFL, soccer and tennis fan, as well as a fan of Bellator, then this is a must have. It's a joke with how cheap it is for all those sports.
Heck, I'm paying $8/month just to have the MLB Network. I may just cancel that channel from my subscriber and keep DAZN.

                      A couple of thoughts:

                      - I dont know if this is going to move us away from the PPV model. If anything, I expect DAZN to start a premium service within the app for PPV quality fights. For example, Anthony Joshua is a DAZN fighter. You think DAZN is going to give a Joshua/Wilder fight for 9.99 when they could make 60 plus on PPV? Never. You think a GGG/Canelo 3 fight will be 9.99?

                      - I'm still skeptical about whether it will ever have enough content for folks in the US. Outside of the US its absolutely worth it with all the other sports leagues DAZN licenses. Lets say DAZN starts snatching up some of the combat sports leagues (MMA, KB, Boxing), I dont know if that will get people to buy the app.

I have UFC Fight Pass primarily for the library. I rarely if ever watch a live Cage Warriors or Titan event on those channels. I wonder how many people actually do.

I have difficulty finding old fights on dazn app. I wanted to rewatch Mousasi vs McDonald, but could only find highlights.

It honestly never even crossed my mind about them going to a premium tier for big fights. Maybe that's just me having unrealistic expectations, but I guess I wouldn't be shocked if they did that, now that I'm thinking about it.

The whole selling point for me is that this will be a cheap option for watching different combat sports under one roof. Paying additional money on top of that for PPV quality fights wouldn't appeal to me unless they offered them at much better prices than what they typically go for now.

Yeah, what I think appeals to people about DAZN is that we want a Netflix/Spotify for sports and MMA. Man I'd pay a decent monthly amount to just have UFC and Bellator period. Then I don't have to think about how to get the next show. It was such a turn off when I first got in the sport.

                            What's the next fight?
weeeell, you got UFC fight night, some of it is on Fight pass, some of it is on Fox, some of it is on FS1... Then you got PPV's, and don't even get me started on the cluster **** that it is watching from Europe or being a global traveler. Ilegal streaming sites aren't just free, they're infinitly easier to use.

Quick question; a wiki search says UFC is also on DAZN. Anyone wanna shed some light on that?

Thats the problem. Canelo/GGG 2 made over a million buys. Now lets say it did a million even for easier math. At 60 bucks, thats 60 mil in revenue. Lets say he got 5% of the PPV revenue (on top of his 11 mil guarantee). Thats 41 million dollars he earned for that fight. GGG probably made half that.

Now Canelo's amount could work under his current deal but what does DAZN do about GGG if there is a trilogy fight? He isnt going to want to make less than what he made previously. Do they treat this fight as a loss leader? Draw millions of people to try the app because of the fight and hope they become long time subscribers? I think they have to offer a premium tier. Its too much of a risk to offer at 9.99.

Another interesting note is that Canelo kinda had to sign this deal. Yes, he is the biggest name in boxing right now but here is the reality.....there arent a ton of big money fights on the horizon for him. There is the GGG trilogy fight. A potential Danny Jacobs fight (which isnt really PPV level but could be). A Saunders fight isnt PPV level (which is a fight DAZN wants). Neither is Andrade. There arent any huge names at 168 unless Ward unretires and drops down a weight class.

So it was a nobrainer for Canelo to sign this because DAZN is overpaying for his fights.
