Gone are the days of a wrestler being entertaining in and out of the ring. Austin's act really got old once he couldn't wrestle anymore. Triple H is a victim (his own doing) of overexposure. I bet if the Rock came back sporadically like Hulk Hogan does, they would cheer their heads off for him too. The closest thing you have to that today is Cena, and both his promo and wrestling ablity is suspect, but enough to get him over.
I'd cheer for the Rock because he entertains me...usually amusing on the mic...is it wrong to cheer for something that you enjoy, just because it's not perfect (sure, I'd love to see the Rock wrestle full time, but we're not gonna get that ever)...

even with Hogan, he and HBK are putting together a pretty good storyline, I enjoy it...but I watch wrestling mostly for wrestling, but also for the storylines, so if something gets me to where I want to see what's gonna happen next then that's good. Personally I couldn't watch a show that was all storylines (that'd be your afternoon soap opera), but also couldn't get totally into a show that was completely all wrestling (no storylines)...Just my opinion

Oh don't get me wrong, I agree totally with what you said. Maybe the way I worded is not clear, but the point I was making is that people are saying that most of today's performers are boring compared to the Rocks, Hogans and Austins, because they can't entertain like they can. IMO that is true. You don't have to be wrestling technicians to be over, just look at the Rock,Hogan and to a certain extent Cena. Cena is fairly entertaining, but he just isn't there yet given his high profile. Whether someone is writing his lines or not is irrelevant.

exactly...I think people liked Hassan a lot lately because he entertained you as a great heel...a lot of the newer guys just don't have that mic presence yet (and Hassan didn't have the time to get real over)

I think Carlito's probably one of the new guys who has more of that charisma, i don't feel that type of charisma in Orton for example

          Re: Combining The Shows

The best combination of in ring ability AND mic skills lies in the hands of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels.

Christian and Eddie Guererro are close also.

I dont see all the hatred for HHH though. Yeah, he does get so much TV time, but if used correctly, you can damn well bet your *** that it'd be entertaining. I miss the days where Hunter would be ruthless as HELL, not give a crap, do what he wants, not submit to anything.

It provided for such good entertainment, and while he wasnt the best technical wrestler in the world, he would put on very entertaining matches. Hell, one of my favorite matches of all time came from two wrestlers who "cant wrestle worth crap" -- Steve Austin v. HHH in the 3 falls match. That was a GREAT match.

I think Cenas promo ability is fine. He just makes me wanna vomit as a good guy. Gansta rapper with a heart of gold just doesnt work for me.

To bad he only kicked that lil kid out of his house, instead of throwing him out. Would make a great episode on "Hogan Knows Best", you know getting to see that lil carter kid get tossed around by Hogan.

i stopped watching Smackdown about 8 months after the split. the show wasn't very interestng.

plus when they got rid of Stephanie as GM it lost some appeal.

i still love RAW though and have resenlty begun to watch it regularly again

Although he has never been given the oppurtunity in WWE I think one of the best combinations of in ring ability and mic skills is RVD. Just go back to his ECW days and watch some of the promos he cut. Or, watch ECW One Night Stand and the promo he cut there. He truly has not been given a fair chance to shine in WWE.
