    RVD comments on his return

    From his offical site robvandam.com:

"Wow! How come I’m getting so many hits on my web site? Oh, I get it. You want to hear it from me, right? **** yeah I’m coming back at Royal Rumble. I am in serious ***-kicking shape and when I return, I expect nothing less than a ridiculously huge “Welcome Back” chant from my fans clarifying that, while being gone for a year, I’m still more popular than those other guys you can’t remember from week to week on television. I might be the first to say it but I won’t be the last.

The wait is almost over. Thank you for enduring the last year, RVD void and all."

It'll be good to see him back. But he's being wasted in the WWE.

If only he was allowed to do his high spots like he did in ECW. Yeah I know it's not very technical and leads to a lot of stalling but some wrestlers aren't apt to the more traditional style.

Let the man wrestle the way he's comfortable and you'll see a lot more exciting matches with him.

After he crushed Triple H in the Elimination Chamber RVD's fate was sealed forever.

Because he's the WHOLE ****ING SHOW!

When did you start watching wrestling? Ever hear of ECW? From '98-'03 RVD was arguably the most over guy in the ENTIRE wrestling world. No one got a louder pop at any ECW show in Queens, or Philly. Not even Sid.

When RVD was in ECW, his moves were breathtaking. I still remember feeling cheated after a show at the Hammerstein Ballroom (here in NYC) when he teased a Van-Terminator only to get pushed off the turnbuckle by someone (I honestly don't remember who it was). He's also made the transition from a work-rate, high-spot wrestler into someone who can wrestle for the WWE.

RVD has every right to be cocky and full of himself.

Yes, because the ten fans cheering for RVD at the bingo hall were certainly more than the thousands of fans cheering for the likes of Rock, Austin, and Goldberg.

Don't get me wrong, RVD was huge in ECW. But calling him the most over guy in the business? That's about as much of a stretch as you can get.

Ive been watching wrestling since I was 5 (im now 19) and ofcourse ive heard of ECW, and saw a lot of the shows toward the end of its run, but what im talking about in his cockyness is that hes expecting and almost damanding everyone giving him a welcome back chant? Also saying hes "still more popular than those other guys you can’t remember from week to week on television." Is obviously an understatement since im sure he wont get a bigger response than guys like Undertaker, Batista (if not injured), or HBK would. Im sure after his comeback ones he settles in his enterence responses will be average along the lines of Kane, Big Show and Shelton Benjamin.

Come on now, RVD has every right to be full of himself. I'm sure what he said was part of his character. I did'nt catch on to ECW till late but RVD as well as the Dudleys were the biggest names in that time frame. He always got a loud pop in WWE. His talent is just being wasted however. He could possibly be a main eventer but his mic skills are seriously lacking.

It wasn't just ECW, though. Notice I said from "'98-'03" In '02, he was way over in WWE.

The internet loved him, the marks loved him, the purists even secretly loved him. Every sub section of wrestling fan loved them some RVD. At every show, everyone was on their feet cheering him. A TON of people HATED Goldberg. A TON of people hated the Rock after he made "The Scorpion King". Starting in '98, NO ONE hated RVD.

I'm betting RVD gets the lousest pop at the RR. Other than maybe Angle.

That simply isn't true. There was a great deal of backlash towards RVD saying that he was nothing more than a glorified spot machine with no mic skills and an inability to actually work a fluid match.

Like I said, purists SECRETLY loved RVD.

I remember running into an old time wrestler who said "All these guys are full of ****...RVD can work with anybody". Another old school guy said "Once RVD gets the call from Vince, he'll be ready". The first quote comes from Tully Blanchard in 2000. The second is from Harley Race in '99. If I believe correctly, Race had been critical of RVD in the media around that time.

Were you ever at an ECW show? I've been to many. Ever been to a WWE show during the Attitude era? I've been to several. There was always people starting "Rocky Sucks" chants. In every section, there was somebody talking about how The Rock couldn't work his way out of a paper bag blah, blah, blah. Everybody at an ECW show was popping for RVD, I've only seen that with Austin.

RVD has fans from every group of wrestling fans. Like I originally said, he was "arguably" the most over during that entire time period.

Name a Pro Wrestler not full of himself.

Great to see RVD back...Although in my mind he should be a former WWE Champion (or was it still WWF then?)
