Lethal Lockdown - No One Escapes

LETHAL LOCKDOWN – NO ONE ESCAPES!
A look at Sting’s return to Pay-Per-View on Sunday, April 23
    By Bill Banks

On Sunday night, April 23, TNA Wrestling presents “Lockdown” live and exclusively on Pay-Per-View. The annual epic features every bout inside the Six Sides Of Steel cage match, the only event like it in all of wrestling. For fans of barbarism and bloodshed, the night will truly be a pinnacle of violence. Over the course of the year, this is the one wrestling event where viewer discretion will be heavily advised, and for good reason.

One of the bouts fans will witness on April 23 will be the “Lethal Lockdown” match, with Sting’s return to wrestling on Pay-Per-View. The four-on-four clash will feature Sting and his team against Jeff Jarrett and his army, locked inside the Six Sides of Steel. For the first time in the history of TNA’s steel cage matches, a roof will be added to the structure – meaning no one can escape. In addition, weapons will be hanging in the center of the ring. Anything goes…no escape…no surrender.

Sting spoke at length about the April 23 bout on the recent “iMPACT!”, revealing that as part of his reinstatement, TNA would agree to force Jarrett and his crew to compete in the Lethal Lockdown. The icon also stated that Jarrett wasn’t the only one with “speed dial” on his cell phone – a cryptic message designed to make “The King of the Mountain” and his cronies sweat it out. Certainly, there are plenty of stars out there who would enjoy nothing more than to assist Sting in annihilating Jarrett’s army – and based on Sting’s history in the sport, he’s got plenty of numbers he can call for backup.

Certainly, Sting’s decision to return is fueled by one thing only – revenge. But this type of retribution goes well above and beyond anything to do with wrestling. When Jeff Jarrett decided in his mind that sending Alex Shelley to film Steve Borden’s personal life was within the bounds of their feud, the line was crossed.

Throughout his career, Sting always kept his family safe outside of the spotlight of wrestling. The icon gave everything he could to the fans. The years on the road, the blood, the sweat, the tears, the pictures, the autographs, the epic wars inside the ring – his life was an open book for the wrestling world. All he asked in return was one chapter go unread – his private life. It has nothing to do with being celebrity status and leading a public life – as Jarrett tried to argue – but has everything to do with respecting the wishes of a husband and father that loves his family and would do anything to protect them.

Once you can understand that, it’s easy to see why Sting isn’t coming to wrestle at Lockdown on April 23 – he’s coming to exact a world of hurt on Jarrett and his army. Why else would Sting want no escape with a roof added to the Six Sides of Steel? Why else would he want the weapons? In Sting’s mind, no matter what happens inside the Lethal Lockdown the job won’t be done until one lesson is beaten into Jarrett’s skull – he will never, ever cross that line again.

For perhaps the first time since this saga began, Jarrett has to feel the heat heading into Lockdown. Going out and getting Scott Steiner to serve as his backup was a wise move, but “Big Poppa Pump” didn’t put Sting out. On top of that, the element of surprise belongs to Sting, as we have no idea who he will announce as his team. On the other hand, we’ve got a pretty good idea of who will be alongside Jarrett in the match. To put it simply, every member of Planet Jarrett is now a marked man, and retribution comes to town on Sunday night, April 23. You don’t think the rest of Jarrett’s army isn’t questioning why their leader would allow this to happen? Jarrett has no choice but to back up his mouth and derail Sting at the Pay-Per-View.

Right now, Sting probably feels an emotion coursing through his veins he hasn’t felt in wrestling in some time – pure, unadulterated hate. It was evident by the interview that aired on “iMPACT!” that he’s hiding it well, but he’s not allowing it to control his thinking. Instead, in the time since the assault by Steiner and Jarrett at Destination X, Sting has been more calculating than ever. He’s planned out his revenge like a field general and now has Jarrett backed into a corner. The only thing left for Sting is to count down the days until April 23, watch his plan unfold and vent his rage once the cage door is shut and locked.

Certainly, the entire wrestling world will be rooting for the icon on April 23 on Pay-Per-View. However, with a barbaric reckoning set to unfold inside the Lethal Lockdown there’s probably one set of Sting fans that won’t be watching that night….his own family.

As a husband and father, he probably wouldn’t want them to witness what he’s going to do to those that have wronged them.

That was a great read and this is going to be interesting considering this is the first time 6 Sides of Steel will be closed off and 8 men in a cage.

Can't wait for this, I'm more excited for Lockdown than I am for WrestleMania this year. Though I'll likely get both.

              Good post candyman.

I like that they are adding the roof to the cage. It will give this PPV that War Games feel.

They weren't allowed to escape at Lockdown last year, pinfall and submission only 'cept for the Xscape match so I don't see why they go through the roof trouble, doesn't win the match.

Yeah, but it's only for Sting Vs JJ match and nothing else. But I wish that they would have done the War Games with 6 sides of steel...2 rings and 2 cages covered, because I still think the match is going to look cluttered if you have 8 heavyweights in 1 ring inside a cage. I would have have prefered Sting Vs JJ one on one in the cage and have each of there armies on the outside.

Why go through all the trouble to put the roof on? well it's simple. They are not putting a top on the cage to prevent JJ from escaping to get the win, but rather to prevent JJ from trying to run away from Sting.

Yes but it would be more fun to have Sting chase him once JJ gets out.

Nah. I want to see JJ a bloody pulp with Sting standing over him with his bat, pointing at him.

The won't really make JJ leave. TNA's main angle is gone when JJ leaves.
