    WCW Question

Since WWE bought WCW in 2001, do they own all WCW footage?

If Sting somehow joined WWE, would they be able to put out a Sting DVD?

I think it might be a toss up if the WWE can put out a "Sting" DVD, because in order to do so WWE would have to get the OK from Steve Broden as he owns the rights to his name.

Yes, they can use any footage they want of Sting because it's WCW footage and not owned by Steve Borden... As for the DVD... I'm sure they could, if they could do that with Ultimate Warrior they can certainly do it with Sting.

Yep they own the entire WCW footage. They also own Jim Crockett Promotions video vault as well which goes back to the early 80s. They don't own any of the Watts stuff tho i've heard they've been trying to acquire it for years.

Now i'm sure you're wondering why I mention Watts this is cuz Sting debuted in UWF before it was absorbed into JCP.

I think WWE could release a Sting DVD without Borden's approval, they did for the Ultimate Warrior.

I bet they could even colaborate like Bret Hart did to release a set even though he never wants to wrestle there.

I also think that guys like Sting, Hogan, Nash, Goldberg are kind of stupid imo. When WCW was up for sale, they should have helped Bischoff purchase the WCW name and assets. They all have enough money.

This way they would have kept the tape library and could have made money off of DVD's and merchandise if they weren't going to try and keep the promotion alive. Imagine a WCW Museum out in Atlanta, Georgia. They could make money off of something like that where people would go and visit.

I still feel like VKM/WWE hasn't done much with the library like they could have.

According to Bischoff on the Monday Night War DVD, he and his group could have purchased WCW (tape library, copyrights, etc) but they pulled the plug when Time Warner/AOL refused to give them the TV slot.

Oh i'm not saying they can't release a DVD set, they can I was just explaining the tape vaults they own. In fact here's a little something to illustrate my point:

WWE's Video Library page for some reason they don't have Florida Championship Wrestling listed yet.

I also agree that they've done a poor job with the vast amount of tape they have. WWE 24/7 is a very good service but at times it feels very limiting. If only they had gone with a traditional cable channel approach to it....

Oh and I want to see more DVDs with classic footage as well.
